Happy New Year!  Let’s ring in 2020 with some games I’ve recently reviewed at!  Please click on the links and read as many as you can, and maybe even post a ‘like’ or comment or two.  I’d really appreciate it.  OK let’s begin!

Pinball FX3: Williams Pinball Volume 5 (PS4)

This latest batch of Williams pinball machines for Pinball FX3 are real life tables that came out in the mid to late 90s.  Which is cool because I was in college then and frequented a lot of arcades and played a lot of pinball so I’m familiar with most of these tables.  I don’t remember Tales of the Arabian Nights that much, but I remember seeing No Good Gophers in nearly every arcade I went to.  It was a golf themed pinball game with two wisecracking gophers.  But best of all is my number one favorite pinball machine is on this volume: Cirqus Voltaire!  I just love the artwork, circus theme, and neon lights on the ramps!

Zumba: Burn it Up (Switch)

I like to review fitness games at the new year since people make fitness resolutions around this time.  The Zumba game is basically Just Dance with more Latin music in it, but there’s nothing wrong with that.  One year at E3 I got to meet one of the Zumba dance celebrities that was on one of the box covers of one of the Zumba dance video games.  She was very nice (and pretty).  And speaking of fitness goals, I wanted to brag on me for a little bit with mine.  In 2019, I worked out a lot more and lost about 8 pounds of bodyfat and gained more than ten pounds of muscle!

Tools Up! (PS4)

Tools Up! is a co-op couch multiplayer game where you must use teamwork to perform home renovations.  Paint walls, carpet floors, and clean up before the strict time limit expires.  It’s kind of like Overcooked, except with construction instead of cooking.  Speaking of the review, I’ve got a treat for you today.  The folks who played this game for this review all have experience with home renovation.  First, there’s me.  While I write game reviews on the side, my full time job is working as a sales associate at a major hardware store chain.  I don’t do any D.I.Y. projects myself, but I certainly know my way around a hardware store.  But my Player Two for this review was my stepfather Jamie, who used to do home renovation projects before he started driving a truck again.  So with our combined experience, we should be able to ace this game, right?  Well, you’ll just have to find out by reading this review!

Three Manly amiibo

My latest batch of amiibo figures are of three manly dudes from Smash Ultimate.  We’ve got Incineroar from Pokémon, Simon Belmont from Castlevania, and Chrom from Fire Emblem.  Let’s check them out!

Ghost Parade (PS4)

Suri is an ordinary schoolgirl who misses the bus one day and must walk home.  She decides to take a shortcut through a forest so she can make it home before dark.  Unfortunately, mysterious beasts are acting aggressive in the forest, and Suri gets lost!  But luckily she befriends a bunch of ghosts along the way that can help her make it out of the forest and save it from danger.  Play as Suri and a following parade of ghosts in this 2-D platforming jumping “Metroidvania” adventure.  One interesting thing about Ghost Parade is that it’s based on Indonesian folklore, which you don’t see too much in video games.  Unfortunately, the game isn’t very good and needed more time in the oven, which is a shame because it had so many good ideas and VanillaWare style graphics!

Woven (PS4)

In a world made of wool and stiches lives a tattered plush animal named Stuffy.  He’s all alone and doesn’t know how he got there, as he’s not too bright.  But one day he meets a robotic firefly named Glitch.  Glitch has also lost its memory and the two decide to venture together to find out why Stuffy is all tattered and why there are other machines and robotic bugs in the fabric world. Woven is a 3-D puzzle platformer with point and click adventure elements.

Magic Brick Wars (Mobile)

Halfbrick has made some of the most well known games for mobile devices and consoles (but mostly mobile).  There’s Raskulls, which is what a sequel to Mr. Driller probably should’ve been.  And the continuous runner/flyer Jetpack Joyride.  And who could forget Fruit Ninja from the early days of mobile gaming?  And now the characters from those titles have come together for a player vs. player action strategy game called Magic Brick Wars.  It kind of reminds me of the classic arcade game Rampart.  I wanted to like this game, but I just couldn’t.  But then, I couldn’t get into Rampart either, as much as I wanted to.

Tap Pop Balloon (Mobile)

I love it when a game’s title explains to you perfectly what you’ll be doing in the game.  In Tap Pop Balloon, you’ll tap the screen to pop floating balloons for points.  Don’t let any float away to the top of the screen or you’ll lose a heart!  Lose all three of your hearts and it’s Game Over.  Also watch out for balloons with pictures of skulls on them.  If you tap one of those, you’ll immediately lose the game, no matter how many hearts you have!  It’s a bit amateurish, but still a fun little time waster.

And that’s all for now!  Thanks for reading and commenting on my reviews, and I hope you all have a great 2020!  Later in January I’ll have some blogs you can look forward to, like my Game of the Year blog, games I’m looking forward to in 2020, and I’ve decided to do a Best Games of the Decade blog, too.  Later!  --Cary

Thanks!  I'm a lot bigger and stronger now!

You know, you weigh almost the same as me, so you must be doing good, too!

Well Pinball FX3 is really good.  Woven is just OK.  Ghost Parade is one of the worst ones on this list.

Good to know about Zumba. I was thinking about getting something like it, but I might stick with Just Dance if they're basically the same type of game. I figure with Just Dance I can also find new music.

Yeah Just Dance has a lot more variety of music.  But if you want a really good fitness game on the Switch, I'd spring for RingFit Adventure.

I saw that on the shelf but had no idea what it is. I'll check out some YouTube vids on it. Thanks for the info!

It's really good. I'm still playing it and I've had it since October.  Maybe since it's been out for a while, you might find a deal on it.  Maybe.
