Mean Green Reviews!

St. Patrick’s Day is coming soon, so Happy St. Patrick’s Day!  And it’s your lucky day, too, as I have more links to reviews I’ve written recently over at GamerDad.com.  Please click on the links and read as many as you can, and maybe even post a ‘like’ or comment or two. I’d appreciate it.  OK, let’s begin!

Angry Birds at TopGolf

And what could be more green for St. Patrick’s Day than the green of a golf course?  TopGolf is a chain of high tech golf driving ranges.  You reserve a spot and can use these clubs (or bring your own), and you can scan your club to eject golf balls from a machine.  Then you swing and hit the ball and try to get it to go into big holes on the playfield for points.  I’m not totally sure how it works, but there are trackers in the ball so you can see the ball’s trajectory on a TV screen after you hit it.  A dumb way to describe it is that it’s kind of like bowling, but it’s golf.  Anyway, TopGolf has teamed up with Angry Birds for a new mode of play you can try.  There’s actually a TopGolf in the same city where I live, so I went there a few months ago to test it out, and I finally got a chance to write about how it works.

SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium (Switch)

I reviewed quite a few fighting games in this batch of reviews.  So what does that have to do with St. Patrick’s Day?  Well, haven’t you ever heard of the “Fighting Irish?”  Game makers SNK and Capcom are famous for their 2-D one on one fighters, and they had a pretty big rivalry between each other for a while.  So that’s why it was a big deal back in the early 2000s when they both collaborated in making a few fighting games featuring both companies’ characters pitted against each other.  Crossover games like this weren’t as commonplace back then.  One of the first of these SNK vs. Capcom games was The Match of the Millennium for SNK’s handheld NEO GEO Pocket Color.  It was one of the best games for that system and now you can play it on Switch!

Game Preview: Guilty Gear -Strive- (PS4)

Recently I got a unique opportunity to play a beta preview build of a game.  I rarely get to do that!  While Street Fighter 2 is probably the most recognizable one-one-one 2-D fighting game series, there are plenty of others that have made a name for themselves over the years.  With its anime styled characters and rockin’ soundtrack, Guilty Gear is just one of those series.  And there’s a new one coming out in about a month called Guilty Gear -Strive- and I got a preview beta build of it to review!  Although I’ve recently been informed it might be delayed.  Now, keep in mind since this is a beta build, there may be changes to the final game.  Hopefully I’ll get to review that, too! Anyway, Guilty Gear -Strive- will be available on PS4 and PS5, but I’m playing the beta on PS4 here.  In the comments section, tell me your favorite Guilty Gear characters.  Mine are Faust, Jam, May, I-No, Dizzy, and Baiken.

The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match (PS4)

As said earlier, game maker SNK is famous for its fighters, and one of their most popular ones is The King of Fighters.  It features characters from other classic SNK titles like Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, and even Ikari Warriors, and it’s a series still around today.  While they used to do yearly games, a new KOF game will still come out every now and then.  There’s even a new one coming soon (I hope I get to review it, too).  But in the meantime, you can download an updated version of one of the more popular games in the series on the PS4.  Well, actually I’m just assuming it’s one of the more popular ones, as I see sprite art and screenshots from it most often on the internet anyway.

Nintendo Switch Toys in Burger King Kids Meals

Staring in February, Burger King has kids meal toys based on Nintendo Switch games!  Sorry this article is a little late, and I don’t know if they’re still doing them.  But they might still have them.  So let’s take a look at what they have!  I’m glad they had toys based on other Nintendo properties besides Mario.  Unfortunately I was only able to get the Luigi’s Mansion and Mario Maker toys.  I really wanted the Animal Crossing and Link’s Awakening ones.

Castle Kong (Switch)

An evil Baron has kidnapped a princess and taken her to the top of a castle.  It’s up to you as a lowly pauper to climb up and down the castle to save her, jumping and avoiding obstacles all the way.  If this sounds lot like Donkey Kong, well, it pretty much is!  So much so I’m surprised Nintendo didn’t sue!

Golden Force (Switch)

In Golden Force, play as one of four pirate characters as you collect treasure and beat up baddies in this side scrolling 2-D hack and slash.  It imitates 16-bit classics, right down to the difficulty, and is available to download on Switch.  One of the characters, and who I always picked, looks just like Shantae.  I’m surprised WayForward didn’t say anything.  Only problem is this game is way too hard!

Super Cops: Justice Keepers (Mobile)

You are a no-nonsense police officer named Steven Justice.  One day your arch nemesis, the evil gangster Mr. Thorne kidnaps your daughter and you must get her back!  But you also must defend your island police HQ from zombies among other things.  Super Cops: Justice Keepers is an action game for mobile devices (reviewed on iPad here).  I like the fact that you just pay one small price for the game and don’t have to worry about any in-game ads or purchases.  But boy is this game all over the place.  I can’t imagine casual gamers staying interested in this.

And that’s all for now!  Thanks for reading and commenting on my reviews.  I do appreciate it!  Happy St. Patrick’s Day, and don’t forget to wear green!  Later!  --Cary

I'd like that Luigi's Mansion toy. I used to have a BK in my area but now they're somewhat out-of-the-way for me. I still remember getting those Xbox 360 games like Sneak King when I had a BK in my area.

I have all three of the Burger King games.  I got them even before I had my 360.  They're so bad they're good.

I never really liked any of them. 2006 I believe it was. But it was cool to get them at Burger King. I think my friend has some of them still, probably mine that I gave him.

I think my least favorite was Sneak King, because I'm not big on stealth gameplay.  The bumper car game and the pocket motorcycle racing game were a little better.

I didn't know about the Burger King thing, but maybe I'll ask for a kid's meal this week. I'm on spring break, so that's my excuse.

If you get the Animal Crossing toy, you can send it to me! :)  If you don't, Jam will come over to your house and beat you up! :)

If I go online, I'm sure I'll experience Jam beating me up anyway. lol

Well, since you did read and comment on a lot of my reviews, maybe I won't have Jam beat you up.  But you'd better be on your best behavior or I'll give her some spinach! :)

I don't really go online with fighting games because I'm so bad at them.  Also I don't have a PlayStation Plus account so I couldn't anyway.  I just wouldn't use it enough to warrant the purchase.

I don't go online much in fighters for the same reason, but I actually like and play a lot of the free games, so that's what makes PS+ worth it for me.

I have enough free games from what I review that I don't have much time for anything else.

Super Cops sounds like Bad Dudes with zombies.

I heard those Burger King toys are hard to get.

No, because Super Cops is played from an overhead perspective, so it's not anything like Bad Dudes.

Yeah I was only able to get two of the Nintendo Burger King toys.  I hate it that I wasn't able to get the Animal Crossing and Link's Awakening toys.  Every time I would go back to Burger King, the toys they had were based on The Croods!  Ugh!

I might have to go to Arby's soon, though.  I hear they have Shovel Knight toys!  Seriously, Shovel Knight?
