Easter Reviews

Easter is coming up, so “Hoppy Easter!”  Let’s go on an egg hunt and find game reviews I’ve recently written over at GamerDad.com.  Every-bunny please click on the links and read as many as you can, and maybe even post a ‘like’ or comment or two.  I’d appreciate it.  OK, let’s hop to it!

Super Mario Easter Egg Decorating Kits

Now you can add some Mario fun to your Easter egg decorating!  I found a couple of Mario themed egg decorating kits at Wal-Mart and thought it would be fun to take a look at them!  So let’s-a-go!

Cat Mario & Peach A-“Meow”-bo Figures

Super Mario 3-D World + Bowser’s Fury was recently ported to the Switch, so in honor of that, Nintendo made a couple of amiibo figures featuring Mario and Peach in their cat power suits from the game.  I got them both, so let’s take a look at them!  I haven’t gotten the game yet, as I already have it on the Wii U, but I’m really curious about that Bowser’s Fury addition, so I may cave in and buy it someday. Not sure yet. What do you all think?

Pac-Man Geo (Mobile)

Remember a few years ago when Google Maps let you play Pac-Man using the road maps as mazes?  Well now they’ve made a whole game out of that with Pac-Man Geo!  It’s a neat idea, but I lost interest in it pretty quickly, which says a lot knowing how big of a Pac-Man fan I am.

Special Delivery from Nook Inc.!

A few weeks ago, I saw an ad on Facebook for an Animal Crossing Loot Box from CultureFly.  It was a little more than what I wanted to spend on it, but it had a lot of good things so I caved in and ordered it.  I do really like Animal Crossing!  So let’s take a look at what’s inside, plus a bonus item!

Summer Catchers (Switch)

If you are ready for Spring and Summer to get here, you may want to pick up Summer Catchers.  Play as a little girl who has lived way up north all her life and has never seen Summer before.  One day, while out in the snowy forest, she meets a talking wolf who is also a craftsman.  He offers to build her a wooden car so she can drive down South to the beach so she can finally see what Summer is like.  Summer Catchers is an endless runner adventure that gets a bit too hard eventually, which is a shame because it’s one of the most charming endless runner kind of games I’ve played.

Blastful (PS4)

Blastful is a single screen arcade style space shooter that combines elements from classics like Asteroids and Missile Command.  You know how most of the time I complain about games being too hard?  Well this one’s the opposite, it’s actually too easy and boring!  I even had the game set on ‘normal,’ not ‘easy’ and I breezed through the game in about an hour and got all the trophies!  Yeah, this one of the only games I’ve gotten a platinum trophy on!

Bonkies (PS4)

While it may sound like a breakfast cereal, Bonkies is actually a game where you help space monkeys build structures on distant planets.  Guide your monkey in a space suit as you fly around with a jetpack, picking up blocks with a special claw and putting them in the designated spots before time runs out.  It reminds me of a game on the Switch and mobile devices called Part Time UFO.  Except Part Time UFO is way better.  The controls are too complicated in Bonkies.  Did you know Part Time UFO was made by HAL, who also does the Kirby games and Smash Bros.?

Raanaa: The Shaman Girl (Mobile)

In a mythical land, a priestess is captured by an evil wizard.  The priestess calls out to a sleeping young girl, and in her dream the girl transforms into a shaman.  Now, in her dream, the girl must collect colored orbs to awaken her powers and rescue the priestess from the wizard.  Raanaa: The Shaman Girl is a free-to-start 3-D platformer for mobile devices, but reviewed on iPad here.  For a mobile game, the platforming works surprisingly well.  Too bad the first level only lasts 20 minutes and then I had to pay for the rest.

And that’s all for now!  Thanks for reading and commenting on my reviews.  I appreciate it.  Happy Easter!  --Cary

I don't know, man... those Meowbo figures are pretty damn cute. Laughing

One of the reasons why I collect all the amiibo figures is they're such high quality.

I saw that Animal Crossing comforter at Walmart recently. Designer comforters are interesting but I haven't seen one I really want yet.

Let me know if you see any other Animal Crossing stuff!

The Mario egg decorating kit looks neat. There's so much Nintendo-related merchandise out there now that I wish had been available whwn I was a kid.

I know!  There's a bunch.  And that's saying something, because when we were kids, we DID have a lot of video game related merchandise.  I mean, I slept in Pac-Man bedsheets, ate Pac-Man cereal (I took out the marshmallows, though), and saved my money in a plastic Q*bert bank.

My only problem is that most of the stuff out there today is all Mario!  I wish we got more Kirby and Zelda and Metroid and Mega Man stuff.  *does best Jan Brady impression* It's all just "Mario! Mario! Mario!"

I had a school folder that had Mario and Link (designed according to the artwork for the NES game.)

I think I remember some school supplies, folders or backpacks or something, that had Link and Mario side by side and it said, "Nintendo Power" at the top.  It was memorable because back then, you didn't see the characters together in a picture like that, unless it was the Nintendo Cereal System.
