Let’s start the new year off right with game reviews I’ve recently written over at GamerDad.com.  Please click on the links and read as many as you can, and maybe even post a ‘like’ or comment or two.  I’d appreciate it.  Ok let’s begin!

Visco Collection (PS4)

Usually when I review an arcade game collection, it’s from a company that most everyone knows.  Like Namco, Capcom, Taito, etc.  But who the heck is Visco?  Well, they mostly made a lot of obscure arcade titles for SNK’s NEO GEO arcade system.  And now there’s a collection of some of those games.  It’s available on all current consoles and PC, but reviewed on PS4 here.  So let’s take a look at the games!

Tears of the Kingdom amiibo

The new Legend of Zelda game, Tears of the Kingdom, was one of Nintendo’s biggest releases this past year.  And now there are two new amiibo figures from the game based on Zelda and Ganondorf.  I got them of course, so let’s check them out!

Alien Hominid Invasion (Switch)

I have so many good memories playing The Behemoth’s games and visiting their booth at PAX.  It all started with Alien Hominid.  I had this game on the GameCube, but it originally started out as a Flash game on Newgrounds.  It was a hand drawn 2D run-and-gun that was very similar to Metal Slug, with lots of goofy humor and challenge.  Since then I’ve enjoyed playing and reviewing other games from them, like Castle Crashers (one of the best beat ‘em ups ever made), and BattleBlock Theater.  And now they’re back where they started with Alien Hominid Invasion, a brand new game with a multiplayer focus, but still fun for one.

Garden Buddies (Switch)

Meet Mutsy, a walking apple with eyes who wants to grow a garden and invite friends over for a dance party.  Help Mutsy do this by designing your own garden and playing mini-games, and even learn some calming exercises along the way.

Chipmonk! (PS4)

Chipmonk! is a 2D side scrolling beat ‘em up where you play as one of three little chipmunks: Gray, Cheeks, or Red, as they beat up (presumably) other bad critters like rats, mice, badgers, porcupines, raccoons, and more.  It’s silly and goofy and plays most like Golden Axe.

The Traveler’s Path (PS4)

Swap and rotate tiles to create a path for a traveler in The Traveler’s Path.  And that’s it, no story or anything like that.

Freaky Trip (Switch)

Help a long nosed, elephant-ish…thing find a missing pet chicken in Freaky Trip.  It’s a wordless point and click adventure.

Easy Japanesey (Switch)

Quiz yourself on translating words and phrases from English to Japanese and vice versa with Easy Japanesey on Switch.  Choose from categories like nouns, adverbs, and much more, and translate to either Kana or Kanji written styles.  There’s Endless, Timed, Challenge, and Campaign modes.  But the regular game is just you getting a phrase and you must tap one of nine choices to get the right answer.

And that’s all for now!  Thanks for reading my reviews and posting ‘like’ and comments on them!  I do appreciate it.  Happy New Year!  --Cary

I loved the PDA games on the original Alien Hominid! Such great multiplayer memories.

Visco...Visco...oh! Like what my mom uses instead of butter when she makes cookies! Wink

Those PDA games in Alien Hominid evolved into BattleBlock Theater, you know.

Yeah and the game that Crisco is most famous for is The Lard's Tale.

I never did play BattleBlock Theater, unfortunately. I think it's stuck on Xbox and computers, which is not ideal for me right now. Hopefully someday.

Yeah The Behemoth supported Microsoft's consoles first for the most part.  Only a few of their games like Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers made it to other consoles.  It's a shame.  Another really cool Microsoft-only company was Twisted Pixel.  They made some awesome indie games on the 360.  And they were located in Texas, my home state!

Those Visco games look interesting. I always loved the NeoGeo graphics even though I rarely found a gameplay style I liked there.

Same with Alien Hominid, love the look, but they're darn difficult. Might have to check out Invasion though. Sounds fun.

Alien Hominid Invasion is still hard, but it's WAY more approachable than the original game.  See if you can try and play it with friends!

I put it on my wish list on Xbox.
