Just a bunch of GamerDad game reviews I’ve written lately starring weird little dudes this time.  Please click on the links and read as many as you can, and maybe post a ‘like’ or comment or two.  I’d appreciate it.  OK let’s begin!

Thank Goodness You’re Here! (Switch)

Oh wow, what game did I just play?  What game did I just play?!?   Thank Goodness You’re Here! is one of the weirdest games I’ve played in a long time. It was published by the same folks who also published Untitled Goose Game and the PlayDate, if that gives you any indication of what this game might be like.   You are a little man, only reaching knee high to everyone else in the game.  Your boss tasks you to meet with the mayor of another town to sell what your business provides.  But the mayor is busy for a few hours, so you pass the time by helping out the townspeople.  You do this by walking around, sometimes in an overhead perspective and sometimes in a 2D platforming fashion.  You can jump with one button and slap with the other button.  Yes that’s how you interact with things and talk with people is by slapping them.  The game is like playing an interactive cartoon and it’s so chock full of British humor that I swear my Switch was going to start oozing bangers and mash.

The New Denpa Men (Switch)

One of the things I liked about the Nintendo 3DS handheld is how much the games used the innovative features of the console.  A lot of games would read WiFi signals and pings from other nearby 3DS owners (they called that StreetPass) and would do things with them.  One of the games that did stuff like this was The Denpa Men.  In that game, you could catch these little guys that looked like a cross between a Mii and a Pikmin, and then you’d send them off on dungeon crawling turn based RPG adventures.  They made like, three of these games on the 3DS!  I vaguely remember playing one, although I think I just played a demo of it and decided I didn’t like it enough to invest more time in it.  But now there’s a new one on the Switch called The New Denpa Men.  It’s free to play, so I decided I’d at least check it out and write a review of it.

Minecraft Fruit Snacks and…Deodorant?!?

Minecraft is one of the most popular video games ever made.  I don’t want to say it’s more popular than my favorite game Pac-Man, but the yellow ghost chomper never had fruit snacks or deodorant!  Yeah I saw Minecraft fruit snacks and deodorant at Wal-Mart a while back, so here’s some pictures and things.  I try to stay away from Minecraft myself.  It looks fun, but I don’t want to get addicted to it!  Even if that Pac-Man DLC is tempting!

Cattie (PS4)

Help a cat make it to the exit in this challenging 2D precision platformer.  It features retro black and white graphics that remind me of the games I used to play on my Apple ][+.

SokoMage (Switch)

Help a wizard reach a magical crystal in a forest in the puzzle game SokoMage.  It’s a block pushing puzzler available on all current consoles and PC, but reviewed on Switch here.

Tiny Pixels Vol. 1: Ninpo Blast (PS4)

You are a ninja riding a hoverbike shooting stars and knives at bugs and other weird critters in Ninpo Blast.  It’s a super simple vertically scrolling shooter.

Gravitators (PS4)

Gravitators is a twin stick shooter where you pilot a variety of ships as you blast enemies, navigate tricky mazes, pick up objects, and solve puzzles.

And that’s all for now!  Thanks for reading my reviews and posting ‘likes’ and comments and such.  I really do appreciate it.  Later!  --Cary

The weirdest thing to me here is that Pac Man never had fruit snacks (at least officially, I did see some you could buy on Etsy).

That is ... a strange missed opportunity, and I'm still not sure I believe they never released official Pac Man fruit snacks. They had to have, right? Right?! But I figure if they did, you would be the one to know.

I just ... Huh.

Anyway, I liked Untitled Goose Game, so Thank Goodness You're Here! sounds up my alley.

I think the reason why we never got Pac-Man fruit snacks is because of timing.  When Pac-Man was big in the early 80s, and you could find him on darn near everything from children's vitamins to ash trays, fruit snacks as we know them hadn't been invented yet.  Once "Fruit Roll Ups" and "Fruit Wrinkles" hit the market, Pac-Man was kind of on his way out (at least for a while) in favor of popular video game characters like Mario.  In fact, once fruit snacks hit it big, you could get Mario and Zelda ones.  In fact, you can still get Mario fruit snacks!  I'm sure that if some fruit snack company wanted to make Pac-Man fruit snacks, Namco would gladly shill him out for that.  Pac-Man is a bit of a sellout.  Heck, today I just bought a Pac-Man Christmas ornament at Wal-Mart!  But I don't think the fruit snack companies think that Pac-Man would be a fit for their target audience.  I could see how they would do it, though.  You could have fruit snacks shaped like Pac-Man and the ghosts, or shaped liked the bonus fruit.

Anyway, if you do get Thank Goodness You're Here, I just hope you like British humor!

I'll take Thank Goodness You're Here! for the silliness, The New Denpa Men because I loved those Street Pass mini-rpgs on 3DS years ago, and Gravitators because I like the graphics and I've strangely become interested in twin-stick shooters.

Also, side note: I fiinally got my phone to link up to my car stereo, and so now I can listen to your PizzaPixelPodcast!
