Holiday weekend recap

Hey Pixlbytes!

I figured I’d jump in here nice and early and update you fine people on my long weekends transgressions.

To start the weekend, I continued my journey through XCOM on the PC and am still really enjoying it. I really like the improvement growth your troops make as they complete missions successfully (i.e. not dead) and it makes me feel like I’m accomplishing something. Unfortunately, I lost my star sniper on Friday when I bull-headedly marched him too close to an enemy outpost so he could make a shot on my main target. I was extra upset as he was my only Irishman so hence I feel like I’ve not only let down myself but my country too. Sad but true.

XCOM

Easier said than done

In addition to XCOM, I also got a few more hours into Yakuza 4. As I mentioned previously, I’m trying to be as completionist as possible on my first playthrough as I doubt I’ll ever find the time to revisit it. So far, I’ve finished most of the side quests I’ve encountered but some are a little too rinse and repeat for my liking. This game is taking me a lot longer to finish than I originally envisioned but so far it’s been fun. Time wise, I think I’m around the 20 hour mark and would say I’m probably half way through. As I expected, the story is full on intrigue and deception which I’m liking and I feel like it’s building up to something epic.

Next on my play list once I finish Yakuza is Bayonetta or Asura’s Wrath or possibly 3D Dot Game Heroes. I’ve bought the three of these this past month and have yet to start any. At the moment, I’m leaning towards Bayonetta first but this could change. I really want to take one game at a time so hopefully I can make a push on Yakuza this week.

Outside of gaming, I finished watching House of Cards this weekend with my wife and also watched the entire new series of Arrested Development. No spoilers but they are both well worth a watch especially House of Cards. Maybe I was just too excited for Arrested Development but it started off really slowly for me. It picked up towards the end however and overall I liked it.

Anyway, enough of my ramblings. How was everyone else’s weekend? Hope it was as relaxing as mine.

Later!

Weekend wasn't too shabby. I had a 4 day weekend, and I spent everyday with my kiddo so it was well worth it!

And I was also slowly chipping away at my backlog.. Then I bought the entire Uncharted series and fucked myself and my progress.. dammit!

3D Dot Game Heroes is a great Zelda clone. I had a lot of fun with it. You can make your own characters or import them. I played with Vincent Valentine from Final Fantasy 7 most of the game.

Sounds fun. I'm not exactly Mr. Originality so hopefully I get some nice choices to import

Weekend was good to me. Need more work, though.

I've always wanted to try Bayonetta.

Yeah Bayonetta has been on my list for a while. Finally decided just to take the plunge and grab it off Amazon for like $15

We're moving this week so we spent the weekend packing. All our games and systems are boxed up and ready to go. That was easy, unlike the kitchen. Ugh, the kitchen...

My wife and I are househunting at the moment so your past weekend will be mine in a few months. Ugh indeed

Yeah the more I think about Bayonetta the more I'm looking forward to starting it. I've never played a Platinum game before so it'll be a learning experience

C'mon and save Bayonetta for later this fall. it's when I play to give it go, just before the sequel hits I hope.

I should watch those shows this weekend as I am off the entire time. Especially Arrested Development, that show is incredibly funny. Glad they did some more episodes finally. I'm currently playing Bayonetta and it's quirky but lots of fun. Crazy fighting and weird dialog that suits me fine. XCOM is one I'm still trying to decide if I will get on Steam,or 360. Either way I'm sure I'll like it because I loved the demo on Steam.

I got XCOM through Steam when it was on sale. I prefer RTS with a keyboard and mouse but everything I've read seems to indicate that it works great with a controller too. I'm hoping to make a start on Bayonetta this weekend at some time. The mini-games in Yakuza are taking up way too much of my time haha
