MaD II: Birthday Blogaloo

I'll have to do some kind of make-up blog where I play like a bunch of vidyer games, but for now, here's  what I've been up to and what I have planned for my birthday today.

Played: Nothing too much really, but my friend is going to give me his Game X Change credit and I have $100 coming from my parents, so likely new games on the horizon for me.

Watched: The movie A Mighty Heart  for my class tomorrow. Depressing true story about the pregnant wife of Daniel Pearl during his capture following 9/11.

Also watched Mud, which was a really great love and sniper-assassin story, featuring Matthew McConaughey with improbably good abs for a starving guy. The kids bring him food and maybe he wasn't on the island for long though, so maybe that's nitpicky. I watched with friends and was drifting in and out due to tiredness.

Read: A crapton of interested articles online, mostly from the usual suspects, http://cracked.com, but also a few really neat articles about how

SFASU: is an awesome team with a great personality that will play UCLA in the round of 32 in March Madness today for my birthday. I hope they win! They're having another watch party in the Student Center, which was damn fun the last time; you could barely hear yourself over the deafening screams of that packed theater when we beat VCU 77-75 in overtime to advance and win out first-ever NCAA game. I'll be coming back from lunch with my parents in Tyler to watch it.

Listened to: Lots of http://ksauradio.com, especially after I fixed our playlists a bit by making sure no Nickelback songs play without request Laughing among other things. Also, whatever playlist I happen to be playing on Song Pop.

Will Write: A blog about the basketball video games I have played at some point, may even be a podcast. I will also post videos of the student center watch party crowds and the games SFASU has played. Basketball has always been my favorite sport to watch and the one I was best at as a kid, so it's appropriate that I was born during March Madness!

Also, I'll make up for the non-gaming MaD blogs I've posted somehow.

Motivational message: No matter what happens, if you're not dead, you can keep going

Demotivational message: If you're rooting for UCLA today, kill yourself. Just kidding, don't!!! But seriously, I hope my birthday karma crushes your dreams today if you're rooting for Team de Opposicion!

Hope my birth date finds everyone relaxing and enjoying whatever they are doing today!

"I's 24 yea's ol', bitch!" says this cat in a Rick James voice

I used to play the hell out of Pat Riley Basketball on the Genesis. It sucked.

I'm sorry to hear that, cause NBA Jam on SNES was awesome.

I've enjoyed the arcadey basketball titles I've played and have always been a damn good basketball shooter, especially when I was younger, thanks to always shooting on our driveway hoop. I was never a physical player though, so my "awesome streak" became less awesome towards the end of junior high.

This reference I think I got ... I'm gonna find out these are all from the same song and/or sketch, aren't I?

My Rick James and Dave Chappelle knowledge (moreso Rick James, who I've heard only a couple songs from to knowledge, where I've seen a few things having to do with Chappelle) about ends with the "bitch" reference. I will have to look this all up. lol

Recall how M.C. Hammer ripped off this song completely for U Can't Touch This a few years later.

"Super Freak" is definitely one of the songs I've heard before, I don't know why I didn't remember those lyrics off-hand, I definitely realize now that I knew them.

I do like "U Can't Touch This" as well, but yeah it makes it hard to feel bad about Hammer's money drying up so quickly.

In listening to Super Freak again I realized that M.C. Hammer didn't just steal that catchy riff, but the whole song including the break. How is that not copywrite infringement?

Rick James was given a writing credit, along with Hammer and Alonzo Miller, says Wikipedia. Thus not copyright infringement, and I'm guessing Rick James got some form of cut of the single's sales.

Happy Birthday!  Have another power pellet!

Thanks, Cary! I wish I could have given the SFA Lumberjacks basketball team some power pellets towards the end of the game, but they still have a 29 game consecutive win streak and holding their own against UCLA to be proud of.

No Nickelback songs play without request? If that sentence ended before the word without I would subscribe to your religion and send you money.

The world should follow your example!

Well, our station is in East Texas, and I've had DJs who like the band, so I couldn't take them out completely. Actually, until that terabyte hard drive is completely full, I'm doing the same thing with any songs I find questionable. No point in getting rid of things when there's plenty of space.

We had a conversation today about how Great Britain is inside the United Kingdom, even though we yanks often think of the UK and Great Britain as interchangeable. I read your sentence in a cockney accent thanks to the last part, and it made me think of that.

Well, thank ya kindly, sir, and all 'at crap! WinkLaughing

Well heck, see what I missed...Happy Birthday, sorry it's late.

I think I saw that Daniel Pearl movie because of what I think was his newspaper did after it his death (I think they were the ones who posted the vid).

I see you have/had some cash burning a hole in your pocket, pickup some new games and post what you got (you probably already did, but I'm still catching up)

Boo UCLA!..and again Happy Birthday and sorry it's late.
