Pagans, LaVeyan Satanism, Beep Baseball, One the Poet

I sat in on some of my DJs' TV production today. It's a practicum class that puts them in the radio station and the TV control room, if you're curious. My professor told me I had to stay quiet in there during production, after I told them a camera completely changed the color of one of the on-set chairs. We'll get back to that.

I mainly sat in to watch the Vice President of the campus pagan society, but ... he uh ... was too nervous to say much of anything. It was more awkward than informative. The two semi-coherent things he managed to get out were that pagan is a term referring to anyone of a faith not based in Judeo beliefs and that he was a LaVeyan Satanist who didn't believe in Satan (I knew what he meant, but ... we'll get to it). They also discussed the pentacle symbol, but by discussed I mean brought up and then said little about it other than it was associated with paganism.

Anyway, after he left there was talk of his inability to answer any questions despite his VP role. So I asked some questions of my own out loud, even answered some other peoples' and my GM/boss/professor who is over the practicum and had asked me to be quiet earlier kept loudly telling me I wasn't even supposed to be there and jokingly looking up derogatory definitions of pagans on her phone. She is from Arkansas and has lived in Nacogdoches for a while. I don't think she's fond of pagans. lol Before anyone jumps down her throat, it was mostly in jest ... mostly. Laughing

And then a cute blind girl was there to talk about beep baseball, which is a variation on the game that allows blind persons to play by incorporating beeps around the bases. She was exciteable, informative and a great interview .. so I wish I would have paid more attention instead of looking up what a pentacle is on my phone.

One the Poet was simply a damn cool local artist with cool paintings to show and who performed a poem that sounded like a love song about his significant other/wife, but wound up being about his daughter (no, it wasn't a sexy love song, don't get weird). Everyone thought he was awesome and I really liked his painting of Africa inside of an eye. The funny part this time was the interviewer, who was using a lot of "hip" phrases like "word" and "I feel that" and made it feel like an MTV interview, when it's a cable access program mostly local people watch. I like the interviewer a lot, but that was funny. Laughing He said he uploaded a CD on Kunaki if you guys want to search him.

Anyway, Dallas Stars just lost to Anaheim 4-3, but it's not all bad as they quickly came out of a 4-0 deficit and should be able to hang in there for this 7-game series.

Keeping it in Check 4/16/14

Calories: 1480, 78 at lunch, then 2.5 scoops of powder =

2155, 123

... dammit ... I mean I had an apple and some strawberries when I got home in Dallas, which ... means absolutely nothing. Of course, I think I may have done some math wrong again ... really need to keep that napkin I write this stuff down on when I eat the "real food."

Work out:

50lbs x 5x10 each arm: one-armed rows

50lbs goblet squat 5x10

135lbs bench with chest pause, 5x5

bicycle crunches 3x25

Well, tomorrow is cardio day, so I gotta find a good hill and maybe get back up to speed like the Stars tonight

I took Okami Den home with me, so I think I'll play that and head in. Night, Pixlbit.

When I was in college, I got a lot of help from the Commission for the Blind, since I've been blind in my left eye since birth and am technically legally blind.  One lady that worked there knew I was trying to work out more and build up my muscles, so she suggested Beep Baseball.  I declined because I told her that it wouldn't be very fair since I could still see in one eye!  Years later, when I had bulked up a lot more, I went to visit her again and she didn't even recognize me since I had put on more weight and muscle.

You keep track of your diet and exercise way better than I do!  Pretty soon you really will be Super Step, if not already!

Okamiden was my Game of the Year in 2011.

I look forward to playing it then!

And that's awesome about your muscle gain. I try to watch myself, but my parents have a lot of snacks in their house ...

Thanks.  Even members of my family who hadn't seen me in a while didn't recognize me after I gained my weight and muscle.  I'm not super buff or anything, but I did go from 140 pounds to 200 pounds, so I did get a little bigger.

That VP of The Pagan Society sounds a little weird. I'm a little pagan myself, but he sounds like a nervous little maniac.  Tongue Out  Too bad you couldn't get the president.

never heard of beep baseball before.  IT sounds like you had a good experience with the poet and everything though.

I've always wanted to play Okamiden, but haven't picked it up yet.  I've never played the original Okami either... I should download the HD version and check it out.

Don't look at me, I wasn't in charge of getting anyone for this. I was just taking a break from my office, which is only down the hall from the TV station where the undergrads do these shows. lol As for the VP, I think he just froze when he realized "oh shit, I'm talking about not being a Judeo-Christian on a Nacogdoches, TX TV station." He was a bit of an oddball though, yeah ...

I've only played Okami on my friend's Wii.

Let's Go Ducks! I'm hoping they win the Cup for Teemu. It was a good night for the Angels as well as they finally won after two games of the bullpen giving up leads.

The beep baseball sounds interesting.

Shame that the VP of the Pagen Society wasn't more informative. It would have provided some insight in their views, and beliefs even if the viewers were for or against them.

Fuck the Ducks, I hope Jamie Benn and crew knock them out of the first round. Laughing

And yeah, I wish he had been more up to the challenge, cause I was interested. They had the Atheist, Agnostic, and Secular Humanist (A.A.S.H., which makes me wonder if it's not a play on a certain Catholic holiday/phrase about returning to where you came from in death) group on earlier in the semester, and apparently they did quite well. Score one for my team, I guess? lol

I need to watch a video of beep baseball.

Funny, I thought "Paganism" was always the old polytheistic religions like Druidism and the like. Laveyian Satanism seems a bit "new" to be Pagan. However, the speaker might have been talking about neo-paganism which I guess can include things like Wicca and Satanism.

Though I always thought Satanism did its' own thing. It's not remotely like Wicca for example. Both use the Pentacle but one belief preaches mind over desire whereas the other is desire over mind. If the Pentacle is reversed it means the later. Satanists tend to wish to ascend and become gods themselves whereas wiccans still worship the incarnations of the goddess and the horned god of the hunt. And no,said horned god is not Satan. lol.

Er,at least that's how I understand it. Maybe some stuff has changed!

He was in fact discussing neo-paganism. I just didn't remember him saying that until now because, well, just read what else I said about the interview. lol

I think you understand it fine, Ben. This kid was just nervous. They should have gotten you for the interview instead, or Larry or Tami.

Any VP of anything should always be prepared to field questions and talk intelligently about things pertinent to his organization.  At least, in my limited political understanding, thats what I believe.

sorry, lol.  when I look at what I wrote in retrospect I sound kind of like an asshole.  not what I was going for!

I don't think so. I definitely agree. VPs should know what they're talking about.

That VP reminds me of myself anytime I had to speak publicly, though I do wonder how he got his position if he has a hard time communicating. Maybe a lack of membership.

I imagine gaining members for a pagan organization in Nacogdoches, TX, which is in the Bible Belt of the southern United States, is neither the easiest thing in the world to do nor the easiest thing for its members to discuss in front of three cameras and a clear-windowed control room.

That's one of the few things I miss about college: you do get to meet a whole lot of interesting people there....

It would be more interesting if the guy knew what the hell he was talking about or didn't freeze up, but eh.
