Cat-Dogs and Gaming Life

The more I look up about cat breeds, the more interested I am in what I think was the breed of my former cat, Clinger: Bombay. I always swore up and down he acted more like a puppy than a cat, throughout his life. He was always cuddly and playful and surprisingly athletic, willing to jump great heights for tennis balls. I was sad we had to have him declawed due to his penchant for climbing very high walls, including the very jagged stones of our fireplace that could have really hurt him had he fallen down the wrong way. Plus, he was an affectionate attention-seeker, much like people think of dogs. He was named Clinger for the way he'd cling on my shirt as a kitten when we got him from the shelter. And he really was damn clingy. In a good way. Everything about him matches the description these experts give of Bombays, who basically describe the breed as cat-dogs:

I'm still wanting to get a cat or kitten, doesn't have to be a Bombay necessarily, and name him Mr. President. I've heard shelters have more trouble getting rid of older cats though, plus older cats might be easier for a college student like me to take care of (unless I find that other part-time job, I have more free time to look after an animal now that 2/3 of my classes are online and one only meets in-person Thursday nights). So I'm leaning towards adopting an older Bombay cat if I do get one. I want to sure I have enough money and time to care for another living thing and as much as I really want a pet, I want even more badly not to let a pet down cause of something that prevents me from giving it all it needs. I had to put Clinger down after a urinary tract infection did something to him that he couldn't walk for more than a few steps during the last days of his life. That happened even despite my parents helping out with the less costly medical options available and him having a family of four take car of him throughout his life. If I adopt an animal, I'm doing it responsibly and with their best interests in mind.

In other news, if I do decide on an animal, I can use this website that KnightDriver pointed out to ensure I keep up with my cat duties: https://habitrpg.com/#/tasks. It's basically a to-do list in RPG form, which is perfect for me. I'm openly not impressed with most turn-based battle systems, but I do like the idea of levelling up when you work hard to achieve something, because I can apply that to real life. This website will hopefully help me do just that. I already lost foods for having a couple more cheat meals today, in the form of a chicken salad sandwich combo and some frozen yogurt. With the yogurt, I got my go-to strawberry flavor and since vanilla was having technical issues, I combined it with key lime sorbet. God, I love key lime pie. So why not have it in frozen yogurt form? Topped it with strawberries, cherries, and those little white dot things. No rainbow sprinkles though. I miss that snack food from the 90s that was just rainbow sprinkles on top of yogurt and you poured the sprinkles on the yogurt. Rainbow sprinkles just go really well texture-wise with yogurt and ice cream. But hey, I also got back on my workout schedule and it's the last week of freedom before training the new DJs starts next week, so don't judge, bro!

In gaming news, I'm still playing Arkham Origins and Grand Theft Auto III. I've sort of given up on Resident Evil 4 HD for now. Don't worry, I'll finish it eventually, it's just not holding my attention right now. I know a few of you think it's one of the best horror games around, so I'm going to make an effort to get through it. Speaking of horror games, I'd love Eternal Darkness to come to Steam. That was my favorite horror game.

As for Origins, I can't figure out how to beat Deathstroke, or at least the whole "wait until he attacks so you can counter" thing is wearing me down. And my computer apparently. May need to make sure those settings on the game stayed where I put them last time I played. Granted, I was playing for a while. Probably tried my hand at Deathstroke four or five times and that was after figuring out I missed a door I could have gone through on Penguin's boat to get to his office through the back. So it had nothing to do with those damn hook thingies I kept trying to use in the room in front of his office. How the hell was I supposed to know "Remote Batclaw" and "Batclaw" are two different things? They both shoot to remote places. Yell

In Grand Theft Auto III, I keep getting killed when trying to pick up the laundromat money for Tony, can't shake the cops in Joey's bank heist mission, but I did get very close to killing 25 triads with a flamethrower for Mexican-porn-guy-stereotype-on-payphone. So that'll be the mission I retry when I load the game back up.

I'll probably play some more Viewtiful Joe with my wired Nintendo Gamecube controller whose control stick can't move directly upwards this time instead of my off-brand wireless one that can't have both shoulder buttons working at the same time. I figure if the game ends up letting me use the D-pad, it should be fine and maybe I don't even need to use up on the control stick since there's a jump button. Spider-Man 2 will still be a pain in the ass for the foreseeable future though.

On the job front, I get paid too much by the university already to be approved for more hours, so there goes any other student-employee on-campuys jobs. Applied to the nearby Dollar General yesterday and had to answer about 100 "logic" questions that seemed more like they were making sure I'd blame dipshit employees for anything wrong when immediate physical evidence linking them to an act was unavailable. Or maybe I was supposed to give them all the benefit of the doubt and failed that multiple-choice test miserably.

In any case, at least I have my routine and some engergy back after working out again since Monday. That's all for now. What's up with you?

I started to play Resident Evil 4 HD as well and also didn't finish it. Same deal, it didn't hold my attention. I liked RE5 alot, so I thought RE4 was a shoe-in for me to like it. On PS3, the audio sounds really bad.

I own Arkham Origins, but I have yet to play it. I still need to play Arkham City first, lol. The first game was really awesome so I know I will probably enjoy those two.

I'm really liking Origins so far. I actually managed to get past Deathstroke and a bit further before typing this comment. Smile

When I was a kid I had a Russian Blue cat.  I wanted to give him a Russian name but I didn't know any, being a kid and all.  So my dad suggested Chekov, after the Russian dude on Star Trek.  I'm not a bit Star Trek fan, but I didn't have any better ideas so we named him Chekov.

Chekov was very smart.  I taught him how to play fetch, open closed doors by jumping up and turning the doorknob, and I even taught him how to use the toilet instead of the litterbox (really).  Chekov also loved to watch me play NES, and would either sit in my lap and try to press buttons on my NES Advantage controller, or he would sit in front of the TV and swat at the moving objects on screen.  If I ever got another cat, I might look at getting another Russian Blue. I might name him Karnov, after the Russian dude from a lot of old Data East games.

Hope everything is going OK with you!  I've been working out a lot lately, too, and feeling the positive effects!  --Super Cary

Oh yeah, I'm fine. Sounds like a great cat! When you said Chekov, I thought of Anton Chekov, who wrote the play Three Sisters

I think once I start collegue, I would like to have a cat to keep me company.

I really find it hard for Eternal Darkness to be on Steam due to Nintendo being the co-developer of the game and the lawsuit lost by now gone Silicon Knights, though i'm probably wrong on the last one.

I forgot Nintendo was involved to that extent. And that Silicon Kights is no more. Darn it.

I'm definitely not a cat person.

sup with me?  Well, I ended up leaving my Dollar Tree job to go to work for an HVAC company...and on the first day of work, I was made to work inside an aerial lift without an OSHA-approved harness.  The second day, my co worker gets pissed and decided he was going to throw tools down at me from atop a roof.  Third day, which was yesterday. he refuses to instruct me on the materials I was supposed to be bringing up the stairs to him.

So I got ahold of my handler at the temp agency and told her that I refused to work for such a company.  I also documented all the incidences of unsafe practices throughout the three days I was there and emailed them to her, so hopefully they'll nail that bastard I was working with.

In gaming news, I've hit a wall in Persona 4...Shadow Mitsuo is tough, I may need to reload a previous save or two and grind out a few more levels.  Who knows.

Other than that, I'm all-good.

Aw, but Bombays are the dogs of cats. You must like them at least, right? Right?! Tongue Out

Damn, hope that guy gets fired and doesn't find himself near equipment of any kind for a long time.

And Persona 4 .... I'm definitely not a JRPG person. Wink

I'd love to play Viewtiful Joe again. I still have the first game. Need to pick up VJ2 again sometime.

Never played the second one.

you sound like you would be a good pet owner.  It's tough.  I recommend maybe getting an older cat, maybe not OLD old, but then again, a kitten could be fun too.  I'm more of a dog person myself, never had a cat.

yeah, that deathstroke battle sucks.  The key is waiting for the right moment.  there's a moment where it feels like you're supposed to attack, but that's wrong.  it's the moment after that where you're supposed to. I dunno.  it's weird.

Yeah, I figured it out. I knew to wait for the counterattack prompt whenever I attacked and the action slowed down, but there was a particular counterattack he did that I didn't think was blockable, cause it looked like he'd already hit me before the prompt came up. It did feel good beating him though.

I'm a cat person, but while I loved her too, I always got along better with our Bombay Clinger than our Oreo cat Darby, and it may be cause Clinger's breed acts so dog-like.

Dude, I love cats, they're fun. I've got a 17-year old cat, and she just loves to hang out with me (well, sometimes she sits in the same spot all day, but she's old).

You can't trust off-brand controllers. Better find a Nintendo-made GCN controller, otherwise your experience with the awesome Viewtiful Joe will be hampered (and Spider-Man too).

It's already hampered by my Nintendo controller. Yell

I like cats, but I am more of a dog person. I still don't think I'm ready to have a pet dog because I really don't want to clean up after one, but when that changes I'll probably get one. As for what's going on, nothing much, just a lazy Friday Night watching preseason football.

I had a lazy Friday and slept until about just now. Going to pick my friend up from work around ten.

And I know how you feel, many people don't like cats, but I just think a dog would be too much maintenance for me as you said. Thus, I'm thinking about getting another cat-dog. lol

Funny should mention getting a cat....

Yes best hold off on RE4 for now. too soon. give a coulpe of weeks. Or perhaps Octoberween.....

hate those 100 logic questions at job sites. When I see one of those I usually give up and walk away. I took enough tests back in school, I don't need anymore. That's why I don't work for Best Buy, Cisco Systems or Novartis.

Are you thinking of getting a cat?
