Splatterhouse and Zombies Ate My Neighbors!

A video Nsonic79 posted on his blog yesterday got me interested in visiting http://ssega.com and playing some classic horror video games I never heard of as a kid, but people raved about when I was older.

I got to the second boss in Splatterhouse II (Genesis), but couldn't figure out what to do to hurt the boss. It's a giant blue head that spits lasers at you. I figured to hit its mouth once the lasers were spit out, since that seemed to make the head flash and hurt it once, but then it stopped working on subsequent tries. I was proud of myself for figuring out to punch the first boss and then wait to back up while it spit acid to avoid damage. I'll admit, it took me a couple tries to stop dying very quickly.

As for the levels, the platforming is a bit stiff, but the chasms you have to jump over are not big, so it's still very much workable. I did sometimes feel like I should be able to move up and down the screen, since the game has a beat-em-up vibe to it, but whatever. It's fun batting bloody zombies into a wall either way.

As for Zombies Ate My Neighbors! (Genesis), it's a surprisingly fun game and I got to the third level, which is a mall, before stopping. Some of the weapons they give you seem kind of useless except for very specific enemies though. I definitely stuck with the water gun for the most-part. Damn those zombies are fast!

Anyway, just something I did for Halloweeen season. Are you guys doing anything to celebrate October? I downloaded Limbo and Psychonauts on Steam yesterday to play in the nights. I'm excited.

I never got into Splatterhouse and never played that Zombies game.

I'm lucky I had a PS2 when Psychonauts came out.  This is the first time in a long while that I've only had one next-gen console (Wii U).

Me neither. That's why I only played them now. They're both decent games it seems like.

This past generation was the first time I did not have a new console. Hoping to change that.

I don't do Halloween. Just was never all that into it even as a kid. And I live in the boonies on a back road with no street lights and my house is set pretty far back from the road, so I never get any trick or treaters, either.

It has always been one of the less important holidays for me too, but I do love going out in the crisp October air and the atmosphere it brings. Mostly, I'm just doing all this to feel like I'm celebrating. I don't give two craps about New Year's Eve either really, but that won't stop me from getting drunk in winter.

But I'd say your house is in a pretty good location for Halloween. Secluded, dark (no street lights) etc. if you ever do decide to set up sign posts that say "Trick or Treat if you dare!" lol Or you can just do what I plan to and stuff yourself with candy while yelling "No solicitors!" at passerby.

I watched some video on Zombies Ate My Neighbors and that game has some cool things in it, but I found it kinda hard when I tried it once.

Those zombies are pretty fast. I had a lot of fun with the game though.

I never got into the Splatterhouse games. It wasn't one of the big games for my friends and I. I should give it a try.

as for Halloween I wear a jersey. It's the lazy man costume. One year my friend and I went as Hockey Draft picks by wearing a dress shirt, tie, and a hockey jersey over it. I hand out candy during Halloween and if a kid says "nice jersey" (it's usually a Cowboys jersey I wear) I give them extra candy. If they say Cowboys suck, they get one small piece of candy

What do they get if they say what my friend Stephanie does every time I bring up the Cowboys and she says "Fuck the cowgirls!" ?

Haha, since I live in the middle of Chargers fans I'd say something like "let me know when the Chargers actually win a Super Bowl" and then give one piece of candy but drop it outside of their bag.

I just bought Psyconauts on Steam a few months ago.  Haven't played it yet, but I decided to get that version since it's the least expensive way to do it. I've been hearing for yyears that it's really worth playing at least once.  Just gotta get into the mood to play. Not sure what exactly to expect.

Basically, it's like playing a hilarious stop-motion animated movie. It's a collect-a-thon platformer, but it's so inventive and engaging in both its gameplay and story I don't mind at all.

I have the SNES version of Zombies. It was a cool horror-themed Gauntlet-styled two-player game.

Yeah, I think aside from maybe audiovisual quality, both versions were pretty much the same game.
