Cat Update: Update on my cat ... and my car sucks

I'm seriously considering the name Katara ... I mean, her calm demeanor and affection make me think "waterbender" (able to heal in the Avatar cartoon universe), plus she came in a box that said "refrigerate upon arrival." But damn, kitty has claws, and so could that character. I think it fits.

Anyway, she hid underneath the futon in my apartment's living room and wasn't coming out when I first brought her home. Nor when I came back with her pain medication the vet forgot to give me my first stop there to bring her home. I can't bee too mad, since she just got spayed and wound up in my apartment. I'd be skeptical too if I just had my ball's cut off and came via cardboard box with holes to a stranger's apartment. At least she meows quietly, but I felt bad. Poor thing.

She didn't trust the food and water I gave her around her hiding spot when I left for work either. Things didn't get any better when I came home from work knowing she needed her pain med (one syringe shot to the mouth) after 7pm and lured her to the edge of her hiding spot only to grab the scruff of her neck and wedge the syringe into her mouth to shoot the supposedly chicken-flavored and "easy to administer" - never trust a vet who tells you anything is easy to get a cat to agree to, by the way - medicine into her mouth. She retreated back quick after that betrayal of trust and again, don't blame her. I wouldn't trust a strange man with a syringe either.

This was after my car stopped running not far from my apartment and several people helped try to jump the battery, push it up a small hill and check my oil after I tried to see if gas was the problem. Ultimately, my car is waiting in a Subway parking lot and one of the guys who seemed knowledgeable about cars doesn't think it's the starter either. Might be the damn alternator again.

Good news is, after taking a shower and lounging around in front of her hiding spot a bit, I heard her purring and she even poked her head out a couple times to check her surroundings when I was there. After presenting her with some turkey she still hasn't eaten and some playtime with feathers on a stick, she's rubbed her head against my hand and let me scratch/pet her while she purrs. Progress.

I'm very happy to have company now, even if she needs to adjust. Now ... stats homew ... zzzzzzz

I'll take pictures of her when she opens up more.

Yeah, Kaylee did the whole "fort up under the futon" thing when we brought her home, too. Nice of your vet to give her pain meds. Our shelter didn't even tell us they'd just spayed her the afternoon before, and whoever did it did a real hatchet job. My vet was appalled. And now Princess Stabbyfeet is the most sociable creature on the face of the earth. She's currently sitting on the CD player and perring down at me while I'm typing this.

Good luck with the car, had to replace my alternator recently, too.

What pisses me off is I replaced my alternator once in Nac, then in Dallas cause they gave me a bad part (was a refurb), so if it's that I am not going to be very happy.

Yeah, mine is really sweet. Just needs to trust me, which she's warming up to doing.

Awwweee Im glad she is making progress. I got 2 baby kitties with my bf recently and I just spent 2 days with them. There living at his current home until we get something figured out during the first half of next year. Just keep working with her. Im sorry ur having car probs, I think Ive been riding on luck with my truck. It might just be because its like over the 15 years old mark but I have a feeling it will have to go to the shop soon.

Pics or gtfo.

I love cats. I seriously want one now. You bastard. She sounds adorable :)

No seriously. Now you have to buy me a cat. Those are the rules now. I've already started thinking of names for my cat. Starbuck? Saria? Katara is a dope name for a cat though. What breed is she btw?

Man oh man cats sound like a lot of work, but I'm glad you're putting the in the effort.

As for the car, man that sucks. Hopefully its nothing serious (or expensive)...and damn the alternator!

Actually, aside from the initial adoption, they're pretty low maintenance and basically take care of themselves outside of food and litter box ... and if you have an outdoor cat, they literally take care of themselves on all fronts, I just can't do that in an apartment complex and have no reason to. My Pine Log (university newspaper) boss has cats to get rid of mice around her house and they're good with the kids too despite being more or less feral. She told me a funny story about a teary funeral with the kids for one of her cats that ended up being a different cat cause hers came up to her porch later for some TLC. lol

We got a kitten about a year ago and she was the same initially. It's great having a cat around the house and I read that they can be great for stress relief. I look forward to pics!

It'll take some time for a cat to bond with you. Hopefully you picked one that'll come to like you. I've known people who got cats only for them not to care about their owner no matter what they did to earn it's trust. They can be filckle creatures cats can.

Car trouble is never fun. Hope it works out but I'm still reading thru my blog backlogs.

She already likes me ... perhaps too much. Took a nap together yesterday, which was great, but the girl wanted to play at 3AM. Arrrgh!

I hope it works out too. My car should be getting fixed today.
