House party, Spamalot, SFA football wins rivalry/playoff spot

What have you done over the weekend Pixlbit? I haven't been very productive school-wise, but I have kept up with my diet and exercise regimen well enough to gain some experience in HabitRPG nonetheless. I've also had mixed success getting Catara to take her new veterinary-special food. There has to be something cheaper I can buy and still prevent her scooting across the carpet, but for now I've given into this "specialty-food" racket my vet is running. I can believe feeding her Meow Mix wasn't the best idea, but I reject the notion Hills Advantage Oral+ is the only thing better for her and will be looking into cheaper options over the break.

Otherwise, while awaiting feedback from the stats prof on my thesis committee on some one-way ANOVAs I feel I may have misread, I've been living it up ... kinda. Mostly, I've been watching Yu-Gi Oh! on Netflix and really wanting to find this Japanese-language version that is apparently much, much darker than what 4Kids gave me when I watched the dub on rainy Saturday mornings, ecstatic I could stay in from whatever soccer game I was supposed to play in that day.

But I have managed to get outside my house and go to the gym/run my hill sprints/get my 7,500 steps a day in (a Kines major friend told me that's fine for maintaining health, so my lazy ass is going with it, despite the fact the friend who planned my workout regimen for me and is currently getting his doctorate at Auburn said to do 15,000 steps a day ... yeah, I'll have to take his advice here soon, but ... holidays).

I also managed to attend some events on and around the college campus, including:

SFA football vs Northwestern State, in which we kicked a last-minute field goal to win back Chief Caddo, the trophy associated with our rivalry with NWST:

which by the way sent us to the playoffs after some things fell into place:

and our first football playoff opponent is ... the same as our men's basketball team's second home game opponent who broke our streak. Here's to revenge in a different sport!

This was after a house party on Friday, which was fun for a while, especially water pong (a few people there weren't drinking as it was BYOB and I'm cheap; good to know I have company in that), but after a while I got tired of only knowing two people there who went off in their own groups and called it quits. Plus, there was a Texans fan giving me shit about my Cowboys hoodie. I swear, Houston has the most annoying fans in any sport cause it seems like all they do is hate on my Dallas teams, when I don't even really care that much about Houston teams one way or the other. My favorite part of the night is when he tried to defend my bounced ping pong ball and wound up knocking over 5 of his own cups instead! HA! His team still won though. Nice guy, but I'm tired of not thinking about putting on my Dallas stuff and then that becomes the whole annoying conversation. Everyone there seemed like good people too, just ... meh. I prefer bars. Or at least house parties where I know people or can find a solid group to stay with instead of being ditched off and on by the people I at least know from work.

But one of my work friends had gone to the excellent Spamalot that same day and said they were going again, so I went Saturday. I didn't meet up with anyone and wound up going alone, but I had a good time so oh well. Mostly, it was just Monty Python and the Holy Grail with gay-themed musical numbers added in, but I love the movie and some of the added bits were really good. Only complaint is sometimes the music overpowered the actors' voices and I had an aisel seat, so there were a couple times I couldn't see the actor on stage right until they came to the middle. Overall, worth the $7.25 student ticket I paid for 2 hours of solid live entertainment.

And that brings up today, where another annoying Houston fan has been gloating about the Rockets beating the Mavs even with 2/5 of the Rockets starters gone. I know I won't be hearing the end of that one, but I'll be countering with the fact the Rcokets lost to the damn Lakers, who the Mavs stomped by 30+ points. I don't care if they were missing starters for that too, if your bench can't take care of the Lakers, that's not a good sign.

And of course, I'm more nervous about this Giants-Cowboys game than I probably should be after seeing Oakland beat the Chiefs and the Vikings keep the Packers within 3, bringing to my mind two things: 1) it's anything-can happen season and 2) desperate division rivals (like the Giants and Vikings) need to be taken seriously at this time.

I agree with Knightdriver the Thursday game against Phili is an even match, as both teams will have a short week, and despite the Titans being a joke and not a division rival for Phili, if Cowboys allow the Giants to shake them up it'll be their fault and Cowboys get home field advantage to boot, so no excuses if Cowboys lose Thanksgiving (which I'm sure I'll hear about if it happens). I'm hoping for the Cowboys to repeat what they did against the Giants last time this season and for a good Thanksgiving game. We'll see.

And I am really looking forward to the Packers-Patriots game next week as well.

My two favorite teams are about to get tested.

How are you Pixlbits? How was your weekend?

I'm going to be in the market for fitness advice. I've got to find a book or something to guide my regimen. I just realized I have the height and weight of Brian Schwenke, center for the Titans.

bs

Thing is, I always wanted to be wide reciever. Gotta train me up to go long.

My regimen is based on gaining lean muscle and losing body fat for a 5'9" 165-ish pound male (on average, think I'm a bit below that currently) at 24 years old with low flexibility in his ankles (though I think all that wound up meaning was doing goblet squats instead of regular squats to improve form ... should probably ask if I need to "graduate" now or if the goblet squats are good either way). So ... mileage may vary for all I know. haha

I too would be a wide receiver if I played football. Whenever we used to play just for fun at recess (with a tennis ball) that's what I did. I've also had people tell me I'd be a good QB given my build and some of the times I've done that while playing for fun (my older brother said I hurt his chest how I nailed the ball to him every time one Thanksgiving lol). Yet when I actually played in 7th grade I was either O-line or TE. Pretty much the only big play I remember is a block I made as TE my dad always tells me allowed a TD. Did it? Hell if I know, I barely knew what was happening at the time.

They actually did put me at WR one practice, but it didn't go well. You'd think me as the bookworm type, I'd be ok with learning routes, but I did my best when they told me to just choose someone to hit. lol

I played football just before my growth spurt. I was pudgy and so they put me on defense. A year later, I grew, and became a bean pole and could've been a wide reciever if I had stayed with it. Years later, I put on weight, and now I'm back on the line. I want to get back to my wide reciever phase.

watching football.  Watching Cardinals right now, they aren't doing too well against the Seahawks.  but game isn't over yet.  Eagles game was good but boring.  Forget who is playing tonight.

I've been productive with music and stuff so I gave myself a present and bought Dragon Age Inquisition yesterday and finished downloading it last night for my PC.  Pretty happy with it so far, and I'm glad I bought it.  Looking forward to play it more.

It's funny, I love football sunday, but I've really felt the call of music today, but haven't had the time for it.  Really want to get back into it ASAP.

The Seahawks are so weird this year. Like they seem to be way less dangerous than last year, but everyone still takes them seriously and they're always in the top 10 power rankings seemingly regardless of who they lose to. But I guess that's the correct way to view them, cause the final was 19-3 against the Cards.

Nice get on the Dragon Age!

Haven't had the time for football or music? Either one deserves attention, so I wouldn't feel too guilty losing focus on one or the other for a short time. I really need to pick my guitar up again. Itching to learn the "R U Mine?" riff from Arctic Monkeys.

9-2, baby. It was fun watching the Pats demolish the Lions today. I, too, am looking forward to next week's game with the Packers, but for entirely different reasons, I'm sure. You're too young to really remember what a joke the Patriots used to be, so we NE fans are reveling in the win for as long as it lasts.

Nope, what I remember is the dynasty comparable to the Yankees or the 90s Cowboys in the early 2000s. Entirely different perspective. lol

I have to give Tom Brady credit, he shut up all his naysayers real fast after that rocky start this season. Doesn't mean I don't want to see Aaron Rodgers, Jordy Nelson, Eddie Lacey, Clay Matthews and the rest of the Packers shut him down. lol

What I want is a good game. Pats winning is a plus, but (Shh! Don't tell Jason!) it's nice to have a good, competitive game. I was hoping for more out of the Broncos, to be honest.

I remember some serious losing seasons...year before they won that first Super Bowl they were 5-11. Lots of 2-14 and 1-15 seasons, too. They made it to the Super Bowl only twice before 2001 and lost spectacularly both times. I really didn't get into football much before I met Jason in late 1998, so I only really started paying attention in 1999, but because I have lived in New England most of my life, I couldn't avoid at least hearing how bad the Patriots were.

As for my weekend, I spent it cooking - made an awesome beef stew for me and Jason, and an apple crisp for my friend Michael. Also made a really good baked mac and cheese from scratch. Watched some movies, watched the Pats game, and walked the dog. We're trying to get in a vigorous three mile walk in the woods every day, which gets a little more difficult at this time of year when it's pitch black by 5 PM, but we manage. Today, it's pouring and extremely windy, so we'll probably skip the walk today.

I think one of those losses was to the Packers and I watched it online. For whatever reason, I didn't know Favre had a ring. Weird.

I hear you on weather conditions hampering the walk. That food sounds delicious though.

I want that too, but I'm hoping Rodgers has another epic day at the same time.

He can have an epic day as long as it's not so epic my team loses, lol.

that a busy full weekend. I can't see how you had the energy to write it all down.

I'm just happy that "The Irregular at Magic High School" is finally on Netflix! No more crunchyroll on the netbook for me. Time to shine on the big screen!

I knda wish I was living in a temerament climiate if only so I can avoid going to a gym to keep fit over the winter months. I just prefor to work/run alone.

Is that what really Spamalot is all about? just a redux of Monty Python with gay show tunes?

They add some jokes and scenarios outside the flamboyant show tunes, but yeah pretty much. I enjoyed it.

As I was reading this, I saw that SFA played UNI. I was going to say that UNI is tough because they played a good game at Hawaii, then I saw the date and then saw the score. Sorry man.

Yeah I do find it funny folks tend to hate the Cowboys more than they love their own team. I mentioned to my uncle who is a big Eagles fan that beating the Cowboys was their Super Bowl, and he didn't didn't take too kindly to that. Hey act like an adult during a win than it isn't your Super Bowl. Making fun of everyone and talking about your team like they are world beaters =Super Bowl.

Yeeeeeaaaaaaahhh ... I stopped being mad about not getting ESPN3 to watch the game quick. 23-0 in the first quarter will do that.

Lol well I didn't make fun of anyone when Green Bay won in 2011, but I guess I'm just classy. Wink
