PAX South 2015

This past weekend I went to PAX South in San Antonio, TX.  I’ve gone to PAX in Seattle for many years, so I thought it was cool they had one near where I live (I’m north of Dallas, TX).  I wrote a couple of articles about PAX South over at GamerDad.com.  Please click on the links in this blog and read the articles if you can.  I’d appreciate it.

PAX South 2015: Part 1: Gaming in the Lone Star State

The first article is just about what I did at the show and the games I covered and meetings I went to.  It wasn’t as cool as PAX in Seattle, but it was better than what I thought it would be.  My favorite part was a “Gamer Parenting” panel I went to.  On a slideshow, they had resources for parents to use, and the GamerDad.com site was listed.  I was so excited to see that and I introduced myself during the Q & A part of the panel.  I think that was my favorite part of the trip.  I usually don’t need attention or pats on the back, but sometimes I do get discouraged and wonder if what I’m doing is useful.  So seeing this at the panel really made my day and I was very happy.

PAX South 2015: Part 2: Costumed Crazies & Eager Beavers

The second part of my PAX South article is a little more silly, as I just took pictures of people in cosplay, as well as other things I did around San Antonio.  Including going to Buc-ee’s!

And that’s all for now!  Thanks for reading my articles and let me know if you have any questions!  Later!  --Cary

It's cool that Dallas gets these cons, even if you say this was smaller than PAX Seattle.

Well it was in San Antonio, not Dallas, but hey, close enough.  Thanks for reading!

Oh yeah ... lol I guess I'm just used to typing Dallas.

That's OK.  It would be cool if it were in Dallas.  Then I would'nt have to go so far!  I wonder if the convention center here is big enough?

Ah, San Antonio.  Home of the Spurs, Riverwalk, and not much else.  I suppose there's the Alamo, but it's so small I almost missed it.  I went there (San Antonio, not the Alamo) a few times for work.  It's pretty nice actually.

It's good to be recognized for the work that you do.  It helps energize you when you don't necessarily feel motivated.

There are lots of things to do in San Antonio if you look!  Of course, it also helps to be easily amused like me, I guess.

Just so you know, the giant pink unicorn is called the Balloonicorn and it comes from Team Fortress 2.

Anyway, great pictures and great to see you got recognition at the panel. I wish to have the opportunity of going to a video game convention in a near future. San Antonio also looks pretty nice to visit.

I think San Antonio is a neat place to visit every once in a while.

I love seeing the cosplayers. I'd like to play a character someday. Not sure who I'd be though. Still working on that.

I'd like to dress up in costume, too, but I'm probably too old for that.

If it looks good, you're never too old.

But what would I dress up as?

The other problem is that I usually go to these things as a member of the press, so I have to look somewhat professional.

Yea, you'd have to go as a fan to cosplay.

I wish I could be both a fan and part of the media.  But oh well.

Tekken has some weird characters. Like that wooden dude and the dinosaur with boxing gloves. I didn't realize that Pac-Land, TX was north of Dallas.

I know!  I got Tekken Tag Tournament 2 on Wii U really cheap recently, and it had a lot of characters in it that I didn't even know about!  I also liked the Wii U version because you could dress each character in a NIntendo themed costume.  Nina Williams in Princess Zelda's dress was awesome.

Yea and don't forget the Panda. Mothman would be mad.

Yeah the Panda is cool, even if she is just a pallete swap of the bear.

never understood why PAX was so big. I didn't get with Penny Arcade either as well. I had a chance to go to the first PAX East but didn't interest me.

It's big because it's like an E3 that's open to the public.
