Retro Game of the Week: The King of Fighters '95

Posted on 02/15/2014 at 01:07 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I'm always skeptical of the claim that a fighter can't be won with button mashing, cause I've heard that about games like Tekken, Soul Calibur, etc. as well, but too often seen a "master," who's been king of the cabinet with his "skillz," finally get his ass whipped by a little girl pushing buttons rapidly, as his former challengers look on.

This sounds like a good time, though, and I suppose I haven't seen that phenomenon in as many 2D fighters. Good review.

It was fun when I played Teraway at Gamestop, but not enough for me to buy one.

Saint Valentine was a BaDass

It might make sense to make a Saint Valentine's chocolate thing like they have for Easter bunnies, and encourage everyone to eat the head first.

Zero Mission was definitely a lot more accessible than the first one as well. Damn respawning enemies that can pass through doors ...

BaD Ep 15: Captain N's Favorite Licensed Games

I liked Rogue Squadron II, Arkham Asylum, and the Godzilla GCN game as well.

I also had Toy Story on SNES as a kid, and come to think of it, Disney games on SNES were usually pretty good.

Another couple favorites would have to be Spider-Man 2, which you mentioned, and a Hulk game for PS2 where you just run around and destroy everything. Ultimate Destruction might have been the subtitle, I think.

How am I STILL so damn MANLY. (BaD #10)

Jeez man, don't let your wife see this. lol

Sage in that video reminds me of that Chris Walken character from SNL with the same Hugh Hefner getup.

Toes adorbs.

I like the red XBOX controller for Valentine's and the ski-person pillowcase for The 2014 Winter Olympics.

And the black cat with white fur in places for the racial diversity celebrated during Black History Month.

Well, you just packed it all in that picture, huh? You're good.

Kong a Day #13 - Finally a Decent Score

Looks like Thursday the 13th is a lucky day. My post about Alice Cooper and Megadeth when I thought yesterday was Friday made it so.

Hope that full moon helps you out this fine Valentine's Day!

BaD #8: OCR Spotlight: A Temple of Chaos (Final Fantasy)

Aside from dabbling in Pokemon and Paper Mario a bit more than usual JRPGs; as well as watching my friend play Super Mario RPG, renting Final Fantasy X and Earthbound once each, and owning and having gotten maybe a bit less than halfway through Golden Sun; I don't really ;like JRPG games all that much.

Even those titles I mention have never been my favorites, because turn-based combat and random encounters just aren't my thing. The Mario and Pokemon games dumbed down or added elements to combat to make it more bearable for me, but I still prefer action games. I hated Earthbound as a kid. I just wanted to play FFX for the cutscenes. The Sphere thing seemed like a confusing chore, and I remembered that while not horrible, I still didn't like turn-based combat. In Golden Sun's case, I was young enough to think EGM's perfect scores meant perfect for everyone, and I think I played it to justify asking for it as a Christmas present, though I probably should have traded it in.

So I ask you, what will FFVI do for someone like me? I do like the graphics and story involved in JRPGs, but gameplay is a bit more of a factor, obviously.

Define gamebook, cause I'm not seeing how it's different from a choose your own adventure book, other than the obvious fact it is not a physical book.
