From the 1UP Archives: Is Modern Warfare 2 the spiritual successor to TimeSplitters?

Posted on 03/15/2013 at 03:18 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I loved Timesplitters 2 on Gamecube (or was it PS2 I played it on?). Such a goofy good time. Loved the stories and characters. Only ever played single player though, so can't compare it to COD which ... I honestly have found boring any time I've played it. Granted, I'm always playing at a friend's and have little experience, while said friend and everyone online has tons of experience, so of course dying a lot isn't fun for me, but even on a kill streak there's something I just never connected to. I'm pretty sure it's the lack of monkeys.

I want old Free Radical developers to start putting monkeys with rocket launchers in Modern Warfare, in particular that scene about the Russian guy or whatever, the really serious scenes. Then I'll be happy.

I'm curious, did Plant put up a Wayne's World sign on stage that said "No Stairway?" I know he's expressed that he doesn't like the song's popularity from time to time. haha I'd love to hear "Black Dog" by them live, just seeing them in general would be amazing.

I need to go to a local Pawn Shop and see if I can't also find a ten dollar deal. My Gamecube still works I think, I'd love to have it.

I think of these songs, "White Room" is my personal favorite, but Jefferson Airplane as a band would probably have to be my favorite Psychedelic Rock band.

Friday Favourites: Pac-Man Cereal

Posted on 03/15/2013 at 03:00 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I never saw any of the gaming cereals around, mostly cause I was born in 1990, and by the time I cared, it was probably not on local stores shelves; not even Food Lion (R.I.P.), or Albertson's (R.I.P. Desoto, TX location). I only learned of these themed cereals later on. I did enjoy sugary treats based off cartoons/characters though, for instance I loved me some Fruity Pebbles, Cap'n Crunch, Lucky Charms, you name it back in the day. Now, cause of my diet I mostly eat Mini Wheats, Chex, and Raisin Bran but I cheat every now and again for that sugary high. lol

What I do remember gaming-themed food wise is Sonic-themed Spaghettios. I never had Genesis, but damn did I love those "rings" with some sauce and meatballs. lol Plus they were constantly having contests involving peeling off the can's label to see if you had the right sequence or number of rings for a prize ... I think. In any case, here's a picture

Hmm... they definitely had NOT changed his design until after I stopped eating these. Maybe I was wrong about meatballs, just had cheese sauce for Genesis era, apparently.

Silent Hill Downpour First Impressions

Posted on 03/15/2013 at 02:37 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I still have yet to play a Silent Hill title. My favorite horror entry remains Eternal Darkness. I do want to play a Silent Hill some time though, I got creeped out just playing the demo of 3 a while back, and my older brother's playing of the older titles made me curious.

Sucks that downpour is glitchy though. I don't think I'd mind it if the game was good either, but that does get frustrating.

I forget how awesome some of those PSX cutscenes look. That rat transformation was creepy, and even today the whole sequence looks none too shabby. This is why I hate that I can't get into JRPGs; they always have such good graphics and seem to have such great stories, but I just can't get into the gameplay enough to unlock those stories. Maybe I'll find a Let's Play or a Youtube video with just the cutscenes.

Love Lindsey Sterling's videos, such a talented woman.

And "Boadicea," which you were talking about yesterday to me. Now I don't even have to find it on Youtube; that's convenient! lol I must admit, I wasn't fond of it at first, found it a bit repetitive, and I don't tend to go for minimalism in music often; but somewhere around 1:45 I settled in, closed my eyes, and it became soothing. Thanks for the share!

Good blog, game seems like a very cool milestone to have.

MGS4 has the best graphics, but I haven't heard a lot of good about its story. I think I might like it, though, I really don't mind gaming cutscenes. I missed out on that one, as well as 3, sadly.

And in all honesty, I'm not familiar with The Yardbirds myself, really, but I did know that's where both Jimmy Paige and Jeff Beck got their start.

Your mom sounds awesome.

I was familiar with the first two, had to find a Yardbirds song, though. I wanted both Clapton and Page's origins represented; actually, I forgot to mention Jeff Beck being in Yardbirds. Oops.

Go for it, it's a great remake in my opinion. Just be warned there are some things changed around. I think GH will be happy to hear of your plan. haha

I forgot Silicon Knights did this. Actually, I think my love of Eternal Darkness had to do with me picking this up, partly. I loved Cyborg Ninja as a kid as well, that segment was incredible on PS1 when I first saw it.

I think in Twin Snakes, Sniper Wolf may have been my favorite character, but Cyborg Ninja had the coolest entrance.
