Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is one of the GameCube's best RPGs, and probably the best Mario RPG in all the series.  It's a shame the recent Paper Mario games sucked, but at least Origami King is a LITTLE better.

After 2003, things didn't change much for me, but that was pretty good since 2003 was when things started to improve for me.  I went back to E3 in 2004, played games like Katamari Damacy, and joined a new little Web site you might've heard of called 1up.com.

They dedicated a whole episode of High Score to RPGs, and they talked about Ultima a lot.  I think my friend and I rented the NES game and got confused, so aside from seeing lots of boxes of Ultima games in PC game store like Babbages back in the day, that's about as much knowledge of Ultima as I have.  I remember Ultima Online came out when I first started college and that seemed like a big deal.

They also didn't mention Ralph Baer at all.

Kirby was named after the lawyer only partially.  He also got his name from the vacuum cleaner company, since Kirby sucks in enemies.  Also, in Japan they liked the contrast of a soft character having a harsh sounding name like Kirby.  The documentary also claimed that Kirby got his likeness from the lawyer as well.  But that's not true.  Kirby was originally a placeholder until they came up with a regular character.  But the team liked the placeholder character so much they just went and used that as Kirby's design!

I actually attended the Nintendo PowerFest that was shown in the video when I was a kid. Except since Dallas was one of the first cities they visited, they just called it Nintendo World Championships 1990.  They changed the name during the tour.  I even wrote a blog about the Nintendo World Championships a few years ago.

One thing I like abou the HIgh Score videos is that that talk about a lot of things I was able to experience.  I was a little kid in the early arcade days.  I was an older kid during the NES heyday and got to experience all that fun.  It just makes me feel lucky and fortunate to be able to have all these experiences with the video game industry.

That's a funny team you created.  Can you make up your own mascots and such?  I'd make a mascot out of a non-ferocious animal.  The Dallas Bunnies.  The Houston Giraffes. etc.

I bought Braid back in the day.  Didn't really like it much because it got too hard.

I didn't get the Bionic Commando remake because I wasn't a big fan of the original, which was also too hard.  I have a friend who REALLY liked it, though.  I think it's interesting that the character in the Bionic Commando remake made it into Marvel vs. Capcom 3.  When we were kids, my friend and I rented the original Bionic Commando on NES and took turns playing stages and we beat it.  But I don't know HOW we did that.  I certainly can't do it now!  We were really surprised at the ending as kids, though.

I like the High Score documentary, but it started better than it ended.  However, I have one more episode left to watch, so we'll see.

I'm curious about that Battletoads game, too.  But it looks awfully cartoony.  Normally that wouldn't bother me, but the old Battletoad games had a more gritty feel to them, and is what made them stand out.

Yeah in the mid to late 90s, they made a lot of Cho Aniki games.  There was even a one on one fighting game featuring some of the characters on the SNES in Japan!

I have de Blob on the Wii.  I stopped playing it because it froze up on me too much.  I give a game the 'three strikes and you're out' rule when it comes to freeze ups.  If a game freezes up on me three times, I stop playing it.  Just don't have time to restart over and over again at the last save point.  Way too buggy of a game.  Hopefully they fixed it in the rereleases.

By the way, I can't remember if you said you have Netflix right now or not, but if so, have you watched the High Score video game documentary series yet?  I'm debating about writing a blog about it later.

Yeah the TG-16 was really known for its shooters.
