Amazing VG Themes: Get Your Groove On!

Posted on 09/18/2014 at 08:58 PM | Filed Under Blogs

Streets of Rage music is always great, thanks to Yuzo Koshiro.  FF9's music is almost as good as FF6's.  Kirby 64 also had some great tunes, as do most Kirby titles in general.  There's a coulple of catchy vocal tunes in Rhythm Heaven Fever on Wii.  I actually really liked Mario Kart Wii as well, with Toad's Factory being one of my favorite new tracks.

Don't forget to unplug your shoes before you walk away or else TRIP!

A lot of Destiny and finally playing Chrono Trigger.

Chrono Trigger is very good.  One of the best SNES RPGs.  DS port is spot on.

Nostalgic Vacation: 1988 - Splatterhouse

Posted on 09/17/2014 at 07:35 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I don't really recall seeing Splatterhouse in arcades much, and the only other way to play it back then was via the TG-16, which I didn't have, so I didn't play it much back then.  Not to mention it's not really my cup of tea anyway.  On the Famicom in Japan, they made a cutesy chibi Splatterhouse game that looks neat.

I didn't like the Xbox 360 3-D Splatterhouse game much.  Again, not my cup of tea and it seemed a bit juvenile anyway.  One interesting thing is that Jim Cummings was the voice of the Terror Mask!  I almost expected him to bust out with a "Let's Get Dangerous," or a Tigger-ish "Hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo!"

Turning 34, work developments and Destiny.

We must have really close birthdays as I just turned 38 on Monday.

Nostalgic Vacation: 1987 - Ikari Warriors/Sky Shark

Posted on 09/17/2014 at 07:27 AM | Filed Under Blogs

Really?  I saw Ikari Warriors a lot, along with its sequels Victory Road and Ikari 3.

Konami had some really rare stuff in Game Room.  Most of it I had never heard of either!

Nostalgic Vacation: 1987 - Ikari Warriors/Sky Shark

I don't really remember Sky Shark, or it didn't stand out to me, but then, a lot of vertically scrolling shooters just kind of mush together for me.  I do remember Ikari Warriors, though.  I saw it everywhere.  In the arcades, on the NES, and a neighbor friend and I played it a lot on the PC.  I played it again recently and it wasn't as good as I remembered it.  SNK games were very prominent where I live for some reason.  The characters in Ikari Warriors are still being used today in games like Metal Slug and KOF!

Nostalgic Vacation: 1986 - Rygar: Legendary Warrior

Posted on 09/16/2014 at 07:49 AM | Filed Under Blogs

My friend and I rented the NES version.  A while later we saw the arcade one only once and noted it was different than the NES one.  And that's all I remember.  Tecmo made a 3-D Rygar game on the PS2.  It was kind of fun, but most of what you did was smash Greek buildings, so it made me think of Rampage.

[What are you playing now?]

I've been playing Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright.  Yesterday I just got my copy of Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call, so I'll be playing that soon, too.

Nostalgic Vacation: 1985 - Mach Rider

I never played this, but then, I didn't get a NES right away.  Super Mario Bros. was all right, but I was perfectly happy playing Pengo on my Atari 5200.  I didn't get a NES until Zelda came out.  Only racing game I had for the NES was Rad Racer, one of the few games I could get my dad to play.  It wasn't that great either.  Maybe better than Mach Rider, though.
