Board Games, Retro Play and XSX

Posted on 09/21/2022 at 05:04 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I learned how to play Backgammon from the Clubhouse Games on the Switch.  But I bet I've forgotten how since then.

Can you guess my favorite character in Golden Axe?

Final Fight in the arcade is great, but not the SNES version.  I wish I would've played the SNES sequels, though.  Mighty Final Fight on the NES is surprisingly good.

I think I unlocked She Hulk in the LEGO Marvel game because I thought she was cool in Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Yeah Road Rash was really popular for a while.  I'm surprised they haven't tried to remake it yet.  Or maybe they have and I just missed it.

I haven't played the AC Monopoly game yet.  I haven't had time.  I usually have enough regular games to play and review.

Yeah my favorites are kart racers and super simple arcade racers.

I remember when Road Rash was really popular.  When I finally played it on one of the game compilations, I found that it was really choppy!

Enduro was really fun.  Activision sure knew how to make good 2600 games.

As much as I like Namco, I do have to admit SEGA has a better track record with arcade racing games.

I didn't get Mario Kart 8 Deluxe since I played it to death on the Wii U, but I did get Mario Kart Live.

Yes the Choro-Q game on N64 was brought to the US as Penny Racers.  But the 3D tracks were really barren and unimaginative.  I liked the Choro-Q Road Trip game on PS2 much more.

The first time I saw a Game & Watch was after the NES came out, I saw the Super Mario Bros. one.  But even then I didn't know it was called Game & Watch.  I saw the Mario Bros. one that someone brought in at Middle School once, and my cousin got a Mickey Mouse Game & Watch for Christmas.  I saw the Zelda Game & Watch in stores, too, but they were really expensive.  But I didn't know about the other Game & Watch handhelds until after the Game & Watch Gallery titles came out.

Mini Games:

I always liked the Captain Toad mini levels in Super Mario 3D World.  I thought to myself, "They should make a whole game out of those."  And then they did!

Another favorite is the Chocobo Hot and Cold game from FF9. I liked how they used the whole world map like a treasure hunt.  And the music they play while you search for map pieces is great (Vamo' alla Flamenco)

WarioWare is the king of mini games.  In WarioWare D.I.Y., you could make your own mini games and share them with the world.  There was one game on there called "Feed a Kitty" that someone made, and it was so awesome.  I bet the person who made it is really cool.

OK, that person who made "Feed a Kitty," that was me.  And the game was dumb.  But Nintendo must've liked it because it won one of their contests and was featured for everyone to download on their server for a while.  Just one of the feathers in my gaming cap.

Cage Match:

Dr. Mario wins.  It's one of my mom's favorite games.  Besides, if I wanted to play a reskinned Puyo Puyo, I'd rather play Kirby's Avalanche.
