I'm not saying someone who kills doesn't deserve to be on death row, I'm saying that there have been enough wrongly convicted death row inmates that I don't trust people to make that decision. That flawed justice system you speak of is too flawed for me to accept its decision on all-or-none matters like state-sponsored murder.
And honestly, I think amassing as big a psychological profile as we can on such people, while keeping them in prison for life, is a more long-term solution.
The problem then becomes making sure they stay behind bars and don't get out to repeat offenses, which I think could easily be done with tighter security around these people. We could stand to ease up on potheads and move some resources. Unless they're potheads who drive while high, which could also get someone killed.
But this is off-topic from your blog, all I was really trying to get at was that no one is just born evil or just "does evil." It's never that black and white. Hell, I could make a case that those evil cartoon villains wanting to take over the world think it's what's best for everyone. Of course, having known some people that think the world revolves them in real life ... I'm still against the death penalty, but I wouldn't cry at their funeral. *Ahem.*
