2010 Game of the Year Awards

With 2011 in full swing, the staff has reflected on the past year and highlighted the absolute best on each system.

Unquestionably, 2010 was an impressive year for gaming, with many great titles releasing across all of the modern systems available on the market.

While each and every console saw some significant releases, this year was particularly great for Wii owners. Nintendo released new titles in many of their franchises, including dormant ones like Kirby, Donkey Kong Country, and Sin & Punishment.

In the downloadable space, both Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network offered a number of impressive games ranging from a unique take on tower defense in Monday Night Combat, to a brand new co-op top-down shooter adventure in Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light.

Multiplatform titles were also abundant in 2010, with so many that the staff had to have multiple rounds of tie-breaker voting to settle on a particular title.

Being our first official Game of the Year awards, we kept it simple this year, picking winners for each of the systems and each of the downloadable services, as well as a multiplatform winner. Please leave some feedback below and let us know what you think of the format, and if you'd like to see something more robust for next year.

Without further ado, I present you with PixlBit's 2010 Game of the Year Awards.

Good effort and nice clean format. Needs one more page at the end. Maybe a short chat log about award debates, favorite game moments or the year in general.

Black Ops over Red Dead? John Marston would not take a liking to this.

Somewhere out there, there's a "_____ of the Year" article brewing. Something with zany categories and meaningless victories. It's just not in here. But it's in development.

Mind if I gave you a hand with that article, thatguy? ;)

(if school work permits it anyway)

Potentially yes, but probably not. It depends on something behind-the-scenes that I might push to move forward within the next week. If it goes through, you wouldn't want to help out with the article. If it doesn't get off the ground, though, then I'll see what I can do.

I haven't had the chance to say it, but a big thanks to the whole PixlBit staff in producing these awards. I sprung it on everyone that we were going to be doing them, and everyone voted and produced their write-ups ridiculously fast.

It took me a while to get everything together due to some stuff going on currently in my personal life, so sorry about that. I'll be making an announcement pretty soon letting everyone know exactly what was holding things up on my end.

Also, if anyone has any input for changes for next year's awards, feel free to let us know here or shoot us an email.

I know it is kinda late but I wanted to chime in on the awards.

First of all. Nice format with the color coding the systems at the top of the page. Maybe have a number one for each genre as well as the systems top 2 games like you have here. Like have the last page have Best RPG for all the systems. As well as all the other genres.

On to the awards. There were alot of good games that came out on the Wii this past year. Money was tight for me so I didn't get all the ones I wanted but I did get a few that were listed namely, Monster Hunter Tri, Endless Ocean: Blue World, Tatsunoko vs Capcom and No More Heroes:Desperate Struggle. Got the first two relatively close to the launch of the respective launches while I got the last two about a week ago. Overall very fun games in their own way.
