I did a game hunt today. I went to a mall outside my neighborhood to access the other Jay Street Video Games store in my area. This retro store has really grown over the last few years and now it's stocked to the gills with retro goodness. I have a short list of stuff I want to add to the permanent collection.; some I've played, others I haven't but want to. The results are pictured below.

I had the GTA Double Pack for Xbox on my list. I remember when this came out in 2003. GTA was a Playstation exclusive and it was finally arriving on Xbox. I clearly remember listening to The Official Xbox Magazine Podcast and hearing Ryan McCaffrey (now at IGN) raving about what a great deal this Double Pack was. I wasn't into GTA at the time but was tempted. I managed to play some GTA Vice City somehow and I bought the CD box set of the music from that game (I wish I still had the phsyical box of that). Well I saw these two loose copies from the Double Pack: Vice City was $14.99 and GTA III was $5. Then I looked at the PS2 versions; much better box art there and I almost went with those because they looked so cool, but I decided to stick with Xbox because that was my main console back then and any titles on multiple systems I always got on Xbox. Plus I seemed to remember there was a slight graphical boost in the Xbox versions.

Then I picked up Halo 2 for $8.99. I remember getting rid of a lot of shooters from my Xbox collection a while ago thinking I'd never play them again. Stupid me, of course I'm going to play them again! Well now my Halo on original Xbox is complete. . . again.

And speaking of that purge of shooters, Half-Life for PS2 was also a casualty. I looked for that but couldn't find it. Darn my trading-in habits!

Finally I got a RCA (3 jack) cable for my original Xbox to use on my old TV at home. I've been using a multi-connector component (5 jack) cable for my Xbox at my friend's place and I don't know where the original cable went. Now I can play my Xbox at home. This might not matter later this year though if I get another TV, but I'll have it in the interim. It was $9.99.

When I got to the counter to pay, I saw the complete GTA Double Pack on the shelf behind the salesman. I almost bit on that but it was sealed and they wanted $29.99 for it, ten bucks more than what I was paying for the unboxed copies. I didn't want to break that seal either, as I knew I would. I'm not just collecting, I want to play these things.

And that's it for this week in game buying. Hopefully I can slow down now. I bought a bit more this week than I should. Gotta reign in the enthusiasm a little bit and get back in the gym. Once a week is not gonna cut it.

My Mii says to you all, PLAY BALL!

One of the best things about GTA on the XB was playing your own soundtracks from the XBHD.  That was awesome. Cool

That's cool. I forgot about that. I think I did rip some music to my Xbox once upon a time.

I have to start looking to replace the dozen or so Xbox games that disappeared from my collection.

If I wasn't living in an apartment, these losses would never happen. I'd just box 'em up, and put them in another closet.

I've really slowed down on buying games compared to a year or two ago. I had this terrible realization not too long ago that I'll probably never play all the things I alreay have, and that has really tempered my buying practices Undecided Naturally, though, I am still buying some things lol

I keep trying to do something rational like only keeping the handful of games I'm playing at the moment and trading everything else, but I'm just too attached to the stuff and like buying new stuff too. I do have a limit though and last week was a little bit out of control.

I've already made a wishlist of the games I want for my Xbox, including trying to get the special edition of Halo 2. GTA I could perhaps look into them for the Xbox, but i've already got almost the whole 3D series on PC.

There's a lot of good ones. I had a blast with that console.

Finding older games is always fun. The local spots have dried up a bit, but hopefully its just a dry spell and I can find some cool games again.

I'm so glad a retro store opened up in my area again. They have such great stuff. Which reminds me, I need a component cable for my PS3.
