Not feeling like blogging

Yeah. The title says it all. Every time I try to write a blog lately, there's nothing. Same with commenting. I just can't be fucked. There doesn't seem to be a reason to. For the time being I think I'm done. I'll probably come back eventually, but for now I'm going to have to take a break from pixlbit.

I don't know. It feels like pixlbit is on the way out. Looking through the blogs and the most commented blog has like 18 comments on it, and it just feels like in some ways the community here is on the decline. A lot of the people I used to read and interact with are MIA and I feel like I might have to join them soon.

I've noticed a withering participation at this site since my arrival (when 1up was in its last days). Look over at your Followers.  At least 80% of the people on there don't post or comment. That's not a criticism, but an observation. Entropy, man.

Yeah but the sad thing is that it's not just me. It's everyone. There aren't as many people blogging or commenting and it's disheartening because I fucking love this place. If it keeps dwindling I might have to find somewhere else entirely.

It seems like there's just not much blogging in the gaming community period. Everything's gone to video and various social media hubs like Twitter and Facebook. What other gaming site has user blogs? I couldn't find one. The only solution seems to be to just create a blog at some general blog site and hope a community forms around gaming. I'm not sure what else to do. I still love Pixlbit, but you're right, there's just a trickle of activity right now.

I've been thinking about this for a few weeks. I keep having this scary thought that one day I'll click Pixlbit and I'll get a message saying the site's closed. Anxiety is setting in.

I've been using Destructoid for a little while and it's fun, but there are more assholes there than here. It's mostly a good community but it has a decent amount of users so you're going to run into that. Also, IGN has a decent blogging community. If you're looking. I've started posting my blogs to multiple places just in case something happens to this site. I really hope it doesn't though.

Ok cool. I looked at both and saw your Your Childhood Sucked blog on Destructoid. Lots of good comments there.

Yeah. Hopefully it's only a backup and this site picks up more but I'm still enjoying blogging there and joining in on the community, so hopefully I could get a few awesome people from here to go over there if this does go belly up (and again I really hope it doesn't.)

I think blogging has been out for quite a while. I usually get more interaction from forums comment sections nowadays. It's too bad a lot of the bloggers at pixlbit have disappeared entirely. The other thing is that the new gen consoles have left me feeling behind with the newest, bestest things so I cant really comment or follow posts about new games on consoles anymore unless its an indie game or on Steam.

If you stopped writing, it would really be a shame. I honestly don't bother to read most reviews or opinion on any site except for yours really. I think they're all just too nice and PC when I just want an honest to god opinion. You're welcome to add me on my new twitter @asrealest if you'd like. I mostly use it to follow gaming news and other nerd stuff. I'd hate for you to completely disappear from the site.

I've started posting my older stuff on Destructoid. Their blogs are pretty decent, and it has a cool community, so who knows.

And cheers. Yeah, I get most of my reviews from youtube because everyone gives every game a fucking 8 and it's bullshit, so I guess I understand. Still I never feel like my reviews are that great which is why I stick to editorials most of the time.

Well, you get out what you put in, I figure.  Still, no one rants like you do man!  Gonna miss you!

This is partly my fault. I've been so busy since starting my game, I've kind of let my participation in the site slide and haven't been helping generate content to keep people interested. I guess in addition to that, Gamer Gate really took the wind out of my sails. It made the whole gaming community a very toxic place and not one I wanted to be a part of while it was all going down. The total lack of action in this latest generation of gaming doesn't help either.

All that being said, don't worry, PixlBit is not going to close! For one, it runs on my own server in my basement, so I have no overhead at this point in operating the site. Secondly, I love this place! I'd never want it to just disappear.

Once PixlCross gets pushed out the door (which is quite imminent), I plan on getting more engaged to get things back on track. If you guys as the community have any good ideas to spark more participation, please, let me know. I'm not sure where many of the bloggers who used to come here have gone, but if anyone knows how to reach out to them, please let them know we'd love to have them here.

Just wanted to say that I like writing blogs on this site, so I hope it doesn't go away any time soon either.

You can count on my support Nick. There are no other communities like Pixlbit.

I think we have all been slipping Nick.  Life gets in the way.  But i am still committed to this community!  Laughing

Things have slowed down since BaD in February but I try to keep going. A lot of people drift in and out. I don't bother posting on other sites like IGN because the asshole content is too high so I'll stick around here where at least it's not toxic.

Complementing what Nick said (sans GamerGate because of difering opinions....), real-life has also taken ahold of us, with work and studies pretty much slowing the participation. It even has affected me, as I would atleast blog once a month, but due to studies, together with distractions outside of Pixlbit, I haven't made a single blog since BaD. After all, we are all humans and some of us simply can't have gaming as a primary way to make a living.

That said, I still hope you stick around. It's be a shame if you leave forever the site, but I wouldn't blame you if you do and you're free to take a break here.

RE: Gamer Gate

I wasn't trying to establish any particular position. I just think the whole thing (both sides) brought out a whole lot of negative. That in conjunction with the other stuff going on really made me back off talking about games because I just didn't want to deal with the situation at all.

Games are my escape and a vehicle for me to have fun and connect with other people. It just felt like that whole incident made gaming not a fun place to be and really set the entire gaming community back instead of moving us forward. I'm not blaming any particular group, but the whole thing just got way out of hand.

Oh, okay. Maybe I shouldn't have brought the issue in the first place.

I hope ya stick around but at the same time I understand. I am gonna stick here not matter what, I just hate the toxic communities that all the other sites have. It's either fan boys and girls of consoles bitching each other out or the master pc race and here I don't see that. Pixlbit is going thru a slow period but hopefully things pick up.

I like checking in on a regular basis, but I don't seem to have anything that I would like to say.  I don't know what it is, possibly work or maybe I am too busy enjoying my videogames.

It's a busy season for a lot of people in the real life, and I think that has the most to do with all this.

Probably. Well I'll probably be back soonish. I miss writing and reading.
