I went a little bit nuts on Gamestop's buy 2 get 1 free sale this weekend. I only had two titles in mind when I went, and each were at different Gamestops, so I ended up hitting the sale twice. Then I couldn't resist visiting my local retro shop just to see what they had on my NES list. Luckily they had a few things I wanted. Gaze at the gaming goodness below:

                vgswag

Top to bottow, left to right:

Eat Lead: Return of Matt Hazard. I watched my friend Mark play this, and it seemed to have genuinely funny moments in it, even though it likely isn't the best FPS in the world. Funny always wins in my heart.

Dungeon Siege III. I read that the co-op in this isn't great. Apparently only the host gains any permanent XP and loot. WTF, I said when it came out. Well, I'd still like to loot it up solo.

Kirby's Epic Yarn. Been waiting so long to pick this up. Platforming isn't always my thing, but beauty always wins in my heart.

Nier. After the announcement of Neir 2, this game has become really scarce in my area. I got probably the last copy within reasonable driving distance from me.

Ni No Kuni. I had to pick this up again even though the battle system foiled my attempts to finish it when it came out. I'm watching My Neighbor Totoro right now, and I'm all fanboyed up about Studio Ghibli. I have the LE edition tin which I'll transfer the disc to.

Dr. Mario. I got this NES version. The version I downloaded on my 3DS is the GameBoy version. Why not have both? I'd like to see it on the big screen this weekend.

Little Nemo: The Dream Master. Cary mentioned this one. I saw some lovely screen shots and then put it on my list. I'm going to try and play it this weekend.

Killzone: Shadowfall. I wanted to play this at the PS4's launch but couldn't justify $400 for the system at the time. I will have a PS4 eventually, and this was like $13. I couldn't say no.

And that's The Official Playstation Blogcast on my iPod. Sid Shuman is a bonefide nut, but I love him better for it.

Tomorow preorders: Etrian Odyssey Untold 2 and Rare Replay. Also I'm looking for any sales on the current systems right now. I hope to have one of them by August 4th when these titles come out.

Wouldn't you want an Xbox One since I don't think Rare Replay is coming to PS4? (which makes me a sad panda) I don't know if it'll drop below $350 any time soon though.

Yea, I'm eyeing a Xbox One right now. I want the one with the 1TB drive but I don't think they are out yet. I have to check.

The 1 TB version is out now at $399, but get a PS4 if you like Japanese games at all (that's why I always favor PlayStation).

I always want all the systems. There's always something exclusive on one of them I have to have. You're right though, for Japanese games, you need to be on PS4.

Joe, did you forget that Rare has been part of Microsoft since they left Nintendo? But to answer the question, don't expect the collection any time soon on the PS4.

Yes, I was aware. That's why I said I don't think it'll come to PS4. The "any time soon" was just wishful thinking. lol

Play Nier. There's fishing!

I heard about that fishing. There's some question as to whether they'll be fishing in the sequel. According to an interview I heard with Kat Bailey and director Taro Yoko, the fishing thing got put in on a whim because he just got interested in fishing one day.

I like Ni no Kuni and Kirby's Epic Yarn!  Yay!  You found Little Nemo!  I just love the fact that the LIttle Nemo game is based off of a newspaper comic strip from the early 1900's!  I could tell you lots more, but I'll hold off unless you are interested.

I'll give it a try tomorrow (or later today now). That's neat about it being based on a 1900 cartoon strip. I'd love to hear more about it.

Quick facts about Little Nemo: It was originally a comic strip in the early 1900's by Winsor McKay.  He was a pioneer in cartooning and was diong animation when Disney was in diapers.  Have you ever seen the black and white silent cartoon Gertie the Dinosaur?  That was Winsor McKay!  Before he did Little Nemo he designed circus posters and also took his animation to vaudeville.  You can see that in his art style of Little Nemo.  Other comics he did were Sammy Sneeze and Dreams of a Rarebit Fiend.

Even though the Little Nemo NES game is actually based on a Little Nemo anme from the early 90's, it has elements of the comic strip, too.  The first stage in the game is called "Mushroom Forest."  That area is nowhere in the anime movie, but it was one of the first places Nemo visited in the comic strip!  Capcom also made an arcade Little Nemo game in Japan that is totally different from the NES version.  A comic book company recently made a brand new Little Nemo series of comics.  I have yet to read them, but I have a hardcover collection of them reserved at a comic book store when it comes out.

I suggest looking up more infomation on the internet if you want to know more about Little Nemo.  I think it's pretty interesting.

Gertie the Dinosaur? Well, I have seen it now, thanks to youtube. I loved the opening of the NES game. They mention it's 1905 and there's a zeppelin that stops at Nemo's window. I also love the music in the game. So catchy. I never get tired of it.

Thanks for the facts. Very interesting.

Little Nemo: The Dream Master is one of my top favorite NES games.  I have better memories playing Capcom's NES titles than I do Nintendo's!

I can see why. The game is a lot of fun.

I like Ni No Kuni but didn't love the battle system.  I REALLY want to get back to it though, because I loved everything else SO much.

That's exactly where I'm at with it.

I preordered Ni No Kuni, played it for a bit, and then lost interest. The battle system was what put me off. It's such a pretty game, and I was into the story, so I guess I really should go back to it sometime.

Same here. I played the demo before it came out and was not sure I'd like the battle system, but it looked so amazing I had to preorder it. Then i got about 20 hours into it and got stuck on a boss. I think I should read a guide of the battle system when I go back to it. Maybe I was doing something wrong.

Kirby's Epic Yarn is a very charming game, though I can't seem to remember much from it. Still a good buy.

It's looks gorgeous. I want to show my roommate. Maybe she's give a <bleep>, but I doubt it.

The way co-op is set up in Dungeon Siege III is dumb but actually playing it co-op is a lot of fun. My wife and I played through that four or five years ago. We keep hoping that Obsidian will get a chance to return to the series.

Well, maybe I'll pick up a second copy for my friend Mark then. I don't think he could stand to play without earning XP or loot though. I wonder at that decision for this game. It seems like the dumbest thing ever.

Like some other people here, I wanted to like Ni No Kuni, but it really has bad combat.

if only it was pure turn-based like Dragon Quest VIII or Blue Dragon. Sigh.

Damn, I missed the sale.  I had to work this weekend.  Hopefully I'll be able to jump on the next one.

They do the sale pretty often at unpredictable times.
