Games and Grub #1

Today was a game and grub day. Had burgers and dogs and meatballs in mashed potatoes while playing a lot of Borderlands The Presequel, Sacred 3, and Earth Defense Force 2025.

Borderlands: The Presequel. I really like this game. I started off playing my Gunslinger character until I got the achievement for 10 Showdown mode kills. I got it entering the Robot Factory where a lot of small creatures attack you. Then I switched to my level 50 Claptrap character and attmepted to take out Deadlift in Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode. This is the hardest difficulty mode in the game, but I should be able to beat the first boss and get to the hub area called Concordia. Nope. Couldn't budge his shield or anything. WTF! Without getting to Concordia I can't respec my stats or get new weapons from the vault key chest. I don't understand why this boss is so hard. I'm clearly doing something wrong and it might be in the way I've allocated skill points and selected equipment, but I can't fix any of that without getting past this boss. That is, unless I go down to True Vault Hunter difficulty. Well, that's what I did and then played through part of the Claptastic Voyage DLC. It's a really cool mission but I noticed my experience points were hardly moving at all even though the battles were no cake walk. Most of the creatures were level capped at 49. Well, I should still be earning decent experience. It seems, to gain any more ground in this game I must figure out how to beat Deadlift on Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode. Anyway, I got fed up after a while and tried out some other games.

Sacred 3: This is a very gauntley/diabloy style game I played for just a half hour to see how the controls worked and felt. They were good so I think I'll pick up a second copy tomorrow so Mark and I can play it co-op. Should be fun.

Earth Defense Force 2025: I returned to this so Mark and I could play some co-op and I could work on an achievement for playing the Lancer character until he got to 1250 armor. I'm at 870 or so now. Along the way I unlocked the 50% all weapons achievement. I've played this game about 120 hours so far. That's a lot of time for only half the weapons. I think playing at various difficulty settings and with different characters is partly the key to this. Mark and I farmed for weapons last year and didn't get to 50%, either of us. Weird. Anyway, I want to get the achievement for beating the whole game (all 99 levels or so) on Normal difficulty with each character type. It's a long haul but doable. This game is so much fun in co-op, it won't seem like very long, I think. But tomorrow I'm picking up a second copy of Sacred 3 and will probably be playing that most of the day.

I didn't get to my 1998 in film this week. I'll just say my favorite movie that year was BASEketball by one of the directors of Airplane! and stars South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. The movie I haven't seen that I most want to is the Wes Anderson flick Rushmore

Aww, no 1998 in film? I thought BASEketball was ok. Vaguely remember the title Rushmore, not what it's about.

I actually wrote half of it before I had one of the worst weekends at work ever. I almost quit my job. Here's the top ten list I made anyway:

BASEketball
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Half Baked
Dark City
Dirty Work
Truman Show
Waterboy
The X-Files: Fight the Future
A Bug's Life
Celebrity Deathmatch [TV]

Man, I'm sorry. What happened?

I read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and still remember my change back at the bookstore being $6.66 when I bought it. I'm no Satanist, but I thought that was a funny coincidence.Innocent Preferred book to movie when I rented it, but it's definitely a pretty close retelling. Something just felt missing for some reason. Johnny Depp is exactly how I picture Hunter S. though, so it was well acted.

I still need to watch Half Baked and Dark City. Don't know what Dirty Work is.

Saw Truman Show on Netflix not long ago, and loved the hell out of it. I like Jim Carrey's dramatic roles and really liked the allegory the movie went for.

I think Waterboy is the last Adam Sandler comedy a lot of people I know actually liked. I liked Little Nicky cause of the references, but after that his comedies took a huge downhill turn. I still remember feeling guilty for seeing Eight Crazy Nights with family. Because I thought it was that bad. And I was 12 and understood the jokes.

Never really watched X-Files. Think it's on Netflix, but wonder if it's for me.

I actually took some of my family to see a Rugrats movie instead of A Bug's Life when both released and we were all glad there wasn't as big a line, but I think they were disappointed in my taste. lol

We didn't have MTV growing up, but I remember Deathmatch being a big thing. I think my older brother may have rented the video game. Caught it sometimes when we were visiting relatives.

I've just been at the same thing too long. Gotta make some change, but I'm kind of at a loss what to do.

Something about Depp is never quite right. He's always a little bit the clown and doesn't convey enough of a real person in his roles (maybe Edward Scissorhands an exception?).

That Celebrity Deathmatch game was aweful. So is the soundtrack CD I used to own. Too bad, the game should've been exactly like Clayfighter. All they had to do was clone it and put in celebs. I still say "I'll allow it." like Miles Lane all the time.

The first boss in Borderlands: The Presequel is stupidly hard in general if you don't do the sidequests and get a certain level. I died a lot to him because the map is broken and I thought I had to do the main quest before the sidequest.

I had this corosive laser weapon (pearlescent rarity for pete's sake) and soaked Deadlift down with it. I put enough on him to melt a battleship to slag and it didn't hardly touch him. Then he smacked me once with his electric attack and ripped my shield clean off and stipped me down to a shred of health. I had no choice but to submit. Grrrrr!
