This morning a Microsoft Store opened in the King of Prussia Mall. This is the mall I've been going to since the arcade years. I couldn't get up early enough for the grand opening, where they probably handed out swag, but I went there in the afternoon hoping maybe I'd see Major Nelson, since he sometimes appears at new MS Stores. No dice there; however, I saw the Xbox One, 500 GB, being sold for $300. I couldn't resist. It was mine. See picture below:
Then I popped by Jay Street Video Games, in another part of the mall, to trade some stuff and get Excitebike 64 and Dark Cloud 2. My trades covered most of the cost, but not all. Dark Cloud 2 was about $50. I've always wanted it though. I'd been eyeing it in the store for a while now.
So now the question is: what two systems do I keep set up at Mark's place for weekend gaming? Right now I have my Wii and Xbox 360. I will definitely be hooking up the Xbox One, so that leaves Xbox 360 or Wii. I'd like to keep the Wii there, because I have more short-play games for that, but I also have some for 360, and I like to check the sales every weekend on that system. I guess it'll be an all Xbox rig with Xbox One and Xbox 360. I'll have to hook up the Wii at home to do those games when I can during the week.
Which brings me to the fact that I haven't been able to get to much gaming during the week, but yesterday I finished Namco Museum DS. This has seven classic Namco games: Pac-Man, Galaxian, Galaga, Dig Dug II, Mappy, Xevious, and Tower of Druaga. The screens for all of these are a little bit squashed to fit the DS screen format and I couldn't get Galaga's controls to stop shooting two shots in quick succession with each button press. Other than that, these games look and play just fine. I played all of them in Score Attack Mode hoping for some kind of metagame or rewards system, but there isn't any - just a list of high scores for each game. They could've done much more with this collection. It was fun for like a half hour.
Tomorrow is football, gaming, and no work. I can't wait.
I have a bunch of downloadable games from the Game with Gold program such as: Assassin's Creed IV, Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, Rayman Legends, and Massive Chalace (can't wait for that one), and one disc-based game, Rare Replay. I really want Halo: Master Chief Collection next. 2016 is going to be sick with games I want, I'm pretty sure.
Im getting a Xbone hopefully for Christmas, just depends on how things go. If not Im gonna shot for income tax season or it will be my reward for getting my CNA and a better job. Dark Cloud 2 was a good game, I didnt love it as much as the first but I did enjoy it.
Im shooting for 1TB since my experiance with PS4. You can fill 500GBs real fast with system install data and Updates for games. I have the 1TB halo collection one on layaway at Walmart. Ill know by Dec. 14th if I can get it.
Dark Cloud 1 is amazing! That game is in my top 10 list for PS2 titles.
I looked at my memory after all my freebie games downloaded and I was down to 320 GB already. The external drive option seems really easy to do on this system, so maybe I'll get one sometime. I did want that 1TB model too, but I wanted to save some money in the short term. I may get a custom one down the road so I can hand off my current one to Mark. Then we'll both have one for co-op gaming like we do for 360 right now.
We were seriously considering getting an Xbox One for Halo 5...but then we found out there is no local multiplayer in the game, a first ever in the Halo series. Our plans to get one are now on indefinite hold. I'm really mad at 343 though. They said it was because the game couldn't maintain 60fps with two people playing. But I don't care! That's how I like to play those games! And now they've lost a happy customer. -end rant-
Ahem, anyway, we might still get one if they patch the local multiplayer in (there's quite a stink online about it), so we'll see. Otherwise the PS4 should keep me plenty busy. But I hope you enjoy it! (Didn't mean to rain on your parade there. Sorry.) That Rare collection is certainly a treasure trove by itself.
I've always heard good things about Dark Cloud 2, and that box looks like it's in excellent condition
Ooooh a new console, congrats man! I was going to say have the One, and Wii hooked up because isn't there a bunch of 360 games that can be played on the XOne?
Is that Excitebike 64? I didn't know there was an Excitebike on the N64
It's a shame there isn't more done with those compilation games, like unlocking other games, in game trophies, etc. It would get users like me a reason to play all of the games instead of the one or two I really like.
Not yet. They are going to start adding 360 games to the back-compat list very soon though.
Excitebike got some good reviews in it's day. I was on a Left Field Productions games kick. It came out in 2000.
The Capcom collections have metagames where you get points for various things you do in each of the games. I think there are unlockable games too. Also, Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection has something like that.
