Top 6 Things Super Mario Maker Needs

So, I'm a bit late to the party, but lately, I've been playing Super Mario Maker pretty much non stop. Unfortunately, while it is quite good, it's also designed by crazy shut ins who haven't stepped outside since hating hansen was relevant.

6. Slopes

Remember these things that have been in your game since SMB3? Remember how fun it was to slide around on, and how much they really allowed levels to speed up? Yeah, so does every other Nintendo fan. So fucking fix this.

Also, where the fuck are spikes?

5. More World Types

Hey Nintendo, where the fuck is the desert tileset? You know, that thing that's been in most mario games? What about a tropical tileset? Or a candy or carnival tileset? Hell, this is one of the few inclusions on this list I'd be happy to pay for with DLC. More map variety please!

4. Checkpoints!

Yes, there are checkpoints in the game now, but we need more! One per level is not enough! When I make levels, I don't want the player to feel like they're losing progress, especially when it's not my fault. I haven't played the new mario games so I don't know whether this is a problem they've fixed, but if not, look to Rayman Legends. See how many checkpoints are in that game? Yeah, Nintendo, get your shit together.

3. Incentives to Explore

Give us some fucking stars or red coins or something. I spend far too much time putting secrets into my level knowing no one will ever even look for them. This is something they worked out with Mario 64 for fuck's sake. No one cares about 1-ups. NOBODY.

2. World Map

You know what would help stop the 2 billion ridiculously difficult levels and the 19 billion auto mario levels? The ability to make a world. You don't need to let us make a whole game, I'd be happy with 8 levels. Then I wouldn't feel like I'm wasting my time when making easier levels.

1. Someone Sane to Come in and Completely Change FUCKING EVERYTHING about how searching for levels works:

Okay, this one probably won't happen because Nintendo are like my grandfather: terrible at using the internet and too stubborn to accept help, but Jesus Christ it needs work. Why can't I just automatically see all the levels my friends have made? Why can't I search levels by name? Why isn't there an easier way to filter levels by type, tileset, game, etc. Why can't Nintendo stop sniffing their own farts for 3 seconds, play little big planet, and come back with a sensible fucking level sorting system?

Spikes I thought were in the game. Maybe we're thinking of different kinds of spikes. They have spike balls from what I've seen.

The spike blocks and Munchers work the same as spikes, I think.

Yeah pretty much, but it feels weird playing mario without proper spikes.

Slopes would be a neat idea.  I wonder if they would be hard to program?

I always figured different worlds would be DLC later.

I'm glad they put in one checkpoint, but some of those levels are pretty long and hard!

Red coins would be neat.  So would a world map that you could make.

There's really no point to having lots of 1ups in a level, since they only carry over if you're playing one of the modes where you play levels in succession.

In the last Nintendo Direct, they said they were making a web site that would make searching for particular levels easier.  I don't know how useful that would be, but at least it's something.

LIttleBigPlanet is one of those series I never had time for.  You can't play ALL the games out there, you know?

I hope you get a chance to play some of my levels.  I put some secrets in a few of them that make them way easier. :)  --Cary

Slopes: I don't think they'd be that hard, since they've had them since mario 3. It's a grid based system, and all they'd have to do is make a block that takes up half a step or make it so certain blocks slope if you make steps with them.

Worlds: That would be smart. I really hope they do that, I'd totally buy it. It's just the desert map that I think is really missing from the original lineup since it's always been pretty huge in the mario world.

1ups: Nope, even in that world there's not much point in seeking them out, Something like stars would be awesome, especially if they helped unlock something. Even if they didn't though, 3 starring a level would add to the challenge and let people know there are secrets to find.

Website: That's not really enough. It should be easy and intuitive to search other peoples creations in the game, and if not, you might as well have not made the game.

LBP: I'm not the worlds biggest fan, but their community map tool is really well implemented.

I plan on playing some of your levels. I've started working my way through some of the levels on the pixlbit page (side note: Fuck Nick) and I will get to yours sometime soon!

Concur with Blake!

Seriously, though, this game has worn me out on hard for the sake of being hard levels. Even the new Nintendo-made things I tried were a beat-down. I need some incentive to do those since there is a never-ending string of them being made at all times. I can't do it just cuz.

I feel like they should implement stars, they should unlock some more tiles or something. Maybe some skins for already existing ones. Then you'd feel like all the levels your playing have purpose.

Oddly enough, I think my favorite part of this game are all the hard for the sake of hard levels that have resulted. I mean, don't get me wrong, some are just horrendously masochistic, but the ones that are truly a challenge of dexterity or puzzle-solving have been a real joy.

"because Nintendo are like my grandfather: terrible at using the internet and too stubborn to accept help" LOL and I kinda agree with that assessment.

It's interesting how similar our ideas are. I put some of the same aspects in my top 5 Mario Maker ideas. Although I thought you could put multiple checkpoints with the newest update I thought...I haven't really fiddled around with it though.
