Half Day of Gaming Today

Short gaming session today. It started with me helping Mark setup his new TV. Then we played some Ticket to Ride, that Alan Moon train tycoon board game on Xbox Live. It's always the same with that game: build a coast to coast railway and you will probably win. I just connect destinations and see where that leads me. Today it led me to dominance of the east coast of North America, but I also lost every single match because I didn't go coast to coast.

So then it was back to EDF Insect Armageddon for me, and Mark went and played EDF 2025. EDF 2025 definitely looks like a bigger, more detailed game, but I like the look of Insect Armageddon. I wonder what engine it uses. It has a little bit more color in it and a very slight cell-shaded feel.

I also finished the campaign in Insect Armageddon. It only has 15 different levels. EDF 2025 has like 100 levels. I tried the survival mode and was disappointed I couldn't use my leveled up character for it. You're stuck with a generic soldier. I'm playing it for achievements now. Maybe I can finish it this weekend.

That's about it. I noticed GameStop has its buy 2 get 1 sale this weekend. I'm going through my list to see if I have three games to pick up. I also noticed they take trade-ins on systems and games all the way back to NES now. I think I'll still save my retro trades for Jay Street Video Games though. I like giving them some business too.

Gamestop is not doing well.  I think it's living on borrowed time.

Really. I know the writing is on the wall because of digital downloading of games, but it was pretty busy this weekend.

They're doing their own Loot Crate thing I noticed today.

yeah their stock isn't doing well. My dad pointed it out to me the other day, and he keeps up with all the business news.

It's going to be weird with few or no game stores around. I hope my retro store survives at least.

I think in some places retro stores will do ok.

My lacal indie retro store is doing awesome, as is Bull Moose Music, a local chain. Could be because people can shop and not have stuff shoved at them when they try to cash out?

Yea, I really dread going to Gamestop now. The only real reason I go there is that I can search their inventory online and be sure I can find something in one of their stores. Otherwise, I just go to Jay Street Video games, where the atmosphere is way nicer.

I might check out GameStop today because the PS3 Metal Gear game is .89 with member card. I really should just buy Ticket To Ride already on a tablet. I want to play it but never got aroudn to buying it when it was part of the Humble Bundle.

I so wish Ticket to Ride kept on putting out new boards. The actual board game has tons of expansions.
