Big Insects, Tiny Men

Played a whole bunch of Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon today.

I finally got Mark to play co-op; and, in fact, I played online and left it open to anyone. Mark, me and two other randoms played through the whole game on Normal difficulty. When my character hit the level cap for Normal dificulty, I started a Tactical character (he can lay down turrets), but in the final level, all of us died and had to restart the level. So I switched back to my Heavy Weapons character who had more armor built up, and we were able to finish it.

Then I started a Hard difficulty run of the campaign with Mark and two new randoms. We got through four or five levels before one random dropped out, and it got seriously difficult. The game can support five players and I think it's tuned for that. Three players makes it difficult, but maybe it was due to players not being high enough level. I was at the right level 5 rank, but Mark was at level 4 and I couldn't figure out what level the randoms were at. They might have not have been high enough (I realize now that I could've just looked at their health/armor number and known). So three players at level 5 or higher might work better.

In any case, we started playing Survival mode in order to get a few achievements for numbers of kills of various enemy types. The game is easily as fun as the other EDF games, just a little more limited in scope. I like the graphics a bit better too because they are more colorful.

Tomorrow I'm going to go for a few more achievements for kill numbers I'm close to. There are many achievments for kill numbers that are absurdly high - like 10,000 kills. After two complete play thoroughs of the campaign and the six survival levels, I've amassed about 7,000 kills for every enemy type in total. I'm beginning to hit the 1000 kill mark on a lot of enemy types, but 10k is just way too much grinding. However, I am going to give Hard difficulty one more stab tomorrow. I'm going to try and play it with AI bots because Normal difficulty with bots was a breeze. There aren't enough people playing this to get a full five player team together, so bots might be the answer. We'll see.

Until tomorrow, pixlpals.

Pixlpals would not have been good, but we'd all be nostalgic for that show once it went off air.

I thought about entomologists today. How they might not like destroying ants and spiders in huge numbers in this game. I got nothing against them really. I love books about ant behaivior and all sorts of insects. It's actually a neglected science. But, let them stay out of my kitchen.

yeah insects freak me out a little.  I appreciate them from a clinical perspective, but I don't enjoy them in my life.

If I had this much dedication to games I probably would have earned more platinum trophies.

If I can beat it on Inferno, I'll get all the achievements, but Inferno is going to be tough without a lot of players online. Those AI bots were very helpful for Normal, but on Hard they are not enough. If I can get my friend Mark to beef up his character during the week, I might have a chance. I hope he does his homework.
