A Skylanders Fixation with EDF Fatigue

Sounds like a diagnosis doesn't it? I spent just a short time gaming today; about two hours worth. Mark and I had to go get a sound bar for his TV and then, later, I had to go see my niece in a musical. But I'll relate what I got.

I obsessively talked about Skylanders most of the day. I had to find the names of some of the figures I got a week ago. I found out there are the main figures for a particular game and then there are new versions of previous figures. Then there are some special variants that were released by certain retailers. Add to that objects as figures, sidekicks, and the mini-figs for the 3DS and things get pretty complicated. I think there's no way I'm going for any complete collections. I'll just pick up the starter kit figures and some that I like and leave it at that.

The two hours I played today were of EDF: Insect Armageddon with Mark. No randoms showed up even though we played online around the ideal time for that (I think) - between three and six. We were on hard difficulty and got through chapter one and most of chapter two. I attained rank five finally on my Tactical Armor. Hard difficulty gets a bit easier when you hit rank six and unlock rank six weapons. I can't wait to make a run for the last few levels. How I do will let me know whether it's going to be too long a grind to beat Inferno. I'm already beginning to feel somewhat fatigued. It's still fun, but I like to see the end of the tunnel for achievement hunting. I'm still dubious whether it's worth going for the "level up all armors" achievement. That entails taking the each of the four character types to rank eight. You're looking at three playthroughs of the game at least - 45 levels. It's a small chore compared to the other EDF games, but maybe still too much of a time sink for me. Next weekend I hope to determine all this.

Over the week, I will keep pluggin' away at Capcom's Classics Collection: Remixed on PSP. I'm on the last few games and will post a blog on my favorites when I finish it.

Over and out.

Yeah, that's why I couldn't get into collecting stuff unless there's a clear start and end.

I've created my own "end" by limiting myself to the start kit figures. Weirdly, I just saw a display of Skylanders figures at my local library in the entranceway. I should've taken a photo now I think of it. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow. There was some pretty interesting figures in there.

I hate it when trophies make you repeat stuff over and over to get them.

I'm ok with it up to a point. Basically when it stops getting fun, it's time to stop. I'm not that obsessive.

If you have any questions about Skylanders, please let me know, I can probably try and help you.

I'm sure I'll have questions. There seems to be a lot of special content connected with the different figures in each game. I wonder if it becomes a necessity to get a certain figure to get an achievement or see a certain location in the game.

Certain Skylanders can open certain areas, depending on their element and what game they are in (Trap Team figures have an extra skill, for instance).  I don't know if you get achievements for that since I reviewed the games on Nintendo systems.

It's definitely going to be interesting playing them.

EDF Fatigue sounds serious.

My wrist has been hurting me this week. I think it's trigger fatigue. Gonna have to do some preventative exercises just for EDF.

That is why I won't jump into the Skylanders Unvierse. Way too many figures to collect, and their recent racing game is tempting.

I'm impressed you are still playing through EDF. I would have hit the fatigue wall after the first playthrough.

It gets even better as the difficulty rises: more enemies, more mayhem, more crazy visuals and destruction, and better weapons that create eye blinding blasts of light. My only issue, and this is true of any game for me really, is how often do I have to replay a level because I get killed. Repetition is my worst foe for continuing with a game.
