Just finished this Taito arcade game collection on the PSP. Here's the game list:

Alpine Ski
Balloon Bomber
Cameltry
Chack'n Pop
Crazy Balloon
Elevator Action
The Fairyland Story
KiKi KaiKai
Kuri Kinton
The Legend of Kage
Lunar Rescue
The New Zealand Story
Phoenix
Qix
Raimals
Rastan Saga
Return of the Invaders
Space Chaser
Space Dungeon
Space Invaders
Space Invaders Part II

My favorite of all is Lunar Rescue. This is a fixed screen shooter that mixes the gameplay of Space Invaders with Lunar Lander and Asteroids. I like it because your mission is to rescue people from the moon instead of just blasting things to bits. I also like it because it mixes all those styles of gameplay. You start at the top and drop from the mother ship into a field of asteroids. You use your thruster to adjust your fall to one of three landing pads on the bottom where you will pick up a person. Then you take off and have to shoot and thrust your way through a field of flying saucers that shoot at you and dock with the mother ship. Repeat this until all survivors on the surface have been rescued. Then do it again with added difficulties like random meteors shooting across your path. I would love to find a arcade cabinet of this. If I do, I'm going to spend some serious time with it.

Another one I liked was KiKi KaiKai. This is a top down action game where you control a sprite that travels through environments full of ghosts and other supernatural beings from Japanese mythology. You shoot them shmup style. The art is great and the bosses are fantastic.

The New Zealand Story is pretty good too. It's a platformer where you play as a Kiwi and have to rescue your Kiwi girlfriend. It's cute, colorful, and a very complex platformer.

Most of these games are on the two Taito collections for the consoles (Xbox, PS2). Only two are exclusive to this PSP version: Space Chaser and Space Dungeon.

That's all folks.

Space Dungeon!

I wish I knew more about Eastern mythology.  I know a lot of Hindu stuff, but nothing about the Chinese and Japanese, about Shinto, etc. But I'll get to it.

I played a lot of Elevator Action as a kid, had it for the NES.  Cool game, but also kid of difficult and repetitive.

I played some Space Dungeon. It's a twin-stick shooter with graphics like Robotron. Kinda cool really. I should play it some more.

I love Taito.  They're one of my favorite game companies.  They have just as much, if not more history, than other game companies like Namco and Nintendo.  Taito even has their own in-house band named Zuntata that does the music for their games.  Right now, Square-Enix owns most of Taito's stock.  I wish they'd utilize them more.

If you liked Kiki KaiKai, you're in luck!  There are other games in the series you can play.  There were two on the Super Nintendo and they were even released in the US under the names Pocky and Rocky and Pocky and Rocky 2, thanks to Natsume.  Natsume also released one on the GBA called Pocky & Rocky With Becky, and it looks more like the original arcade game.  There was also a Pocky and Rocky mini-game in Furu Furu Park, a game on the Wii.  Speaking of the Wii, there is a game on it called Heavenly Guardian that was originally going to be a Pocky and Rocky game, but Taito backed out so that other game company just went with generic characters.

If you like the Japanese mythologies in those games, you may also want to try Okami or Yo-Kai Watch.

I wrote those Pocky & Rocky games down on my list when last this game came up in conversation. I'll find one of them sometime.

I love Okami. Still haven't finished it though.

I played Space Invaders and countless clones thereof, Space Dungeon, Elevator Action, and Rastan.

Did you ever play Jungle King/Jungle Hunt? The original version was Jungle King, and you were Tarzan traveling through the jungle to rescue Jane (vine swinging, swimming with crocodiles, dodging boulders, and getting past cannibals). It even had a sample of Johnny Weismueller's famous Tarzan Scream. Then the estate of Edgar Rice Burroughs sued Taito, so they changed it to Jungle Hunt, replaced Tarzan with a generic British jungle explorer, and removed the Tarzan Scream.

Yea, that Jungle King/Hunt game is on some collection I have. I played it not too long ago. Fun game.

I think I have the console version of this and I wanted the PSP version as well because of the exclusives. Compilations like that this are always fun to play.
