I Think I'm Finished with EDF 4.1

So I set up my PS4 the other day. This thing is smaller and lighter than the XBO. I like that. I thought the setup would take a long time, you know, with Sony's usual long updating process, but it only took me a half hour to install the updates and sign into my profile. Yes! The only thing I'm not sure about is transfering licenses so I can play PSN games I owned on PS3. I'd push that button but I'm not sure the PSN games on PS3 will work on PS4, and I'm not sure the license transfer option on PS4 refers to PS3 games. I have to do some research on that.

Then I played Earth Defense Force 4.1. This is the same game as EDF 2025 that came out a year ago except that it has a little more detail in the graphics, runs smoother, has more complex lighting in underground areas, and has additional giant monsters and, apparently, robots; although, I haven't seen a giant robot yet. I did see a giant monster though. It appears early on as a unbeatable foe that leaves at the end of the level. I wish I was sticking with this game to the end to see in the later levels how you would bring one down, but, alas, I think I'm done with the game after this weekend.

This game can be really fun and really frustrating. I played on Normal difficulty and found it a little too easy, so I played some levels on Hard. Better weapons drop on higher difficulties, so I got me a few good weapons, but on certain levels, you get swarmed with enemies; and if you don't have enough armor built up, you will die. So I was a Ranger, with fairly low armor, with weapons suitable for Hard difficulty. This means certain levels, like underground ones, where enemies swarm you, and certain levels with lots of spiders, who throw a lot of webbing at you, are a real pain in the butt. I occasionally went back to do levels on Normal, but I wouldn't get any weapons I could use because they were too low level. Well, I got the trophy for collecting a certain percentage of the total weapons in the game anyway.

After a while I would just replay levels over and over on Hard and try different weapon loadouts. Choice of weapons on specific levels is crucial, I found out. Sometimes you need stuff to battle air attackers, other times hoards of ground forces, other times you need long distance attacks. So by fiddling with my weapons, I was able to clear a few more levels on Hard, but some of those levels halted me over and over because of web throwing spiders that do more damage than I can take. It really became more frustrating than fun after a while.

I think, next weekend, I'll trade EDF 4.1 and get Dragon Quest Heroes. I want to play that more on my new PS4.

Peace.

I believe whatever PSN games you bought on your PS3 will be available to you in your library as long as you use the same login info. The game saves you might have to upload to the cloud if you have PS+ and then download them on the PS4.

I use the same login info, but when I went to PixelJunk Monsters in the store, it doesn't say I owned it like the way Xbox Live does. Maybe I have to transfer licenses or something, or go to a different location in the menus.

I wonder if PSN made a PS4 version of that game. That could be the reason.

I always wanted to play one of those Earth Defense Force games, and I hear they have split screen co-op!

Yes they do. Split/Screen or online co-op. It's the way to play those games. It's probably why I didn't spend as much time with this one. I was playing solo.

I think you're out of luck with the PS3 games, but PSN games should be alright, depending on the game. I was disappointed Game of Thrones didn't transfer from PS3 to PS4, which really surprised me.

I'm not sure I really want to transfer my PSN games to PS4 anyway. I'm fine keeping them on the PS3. I just hope I'll be able to login to my PS3 when I do. I had to designate my PS4 as my primary system, but I think that was just among other possible PS4s. It's like the household use thing that Xbox has. Anyone can now login to my PS4 and play games on it and have the benefit of my PSPlus membership, which I don't have right now. I was surprised that you can't play multiplayer games without Plus Membership now. When did that happen?

that happened with the arrival of the PS4.  I know, it's kind of lame.

I guess I don't need it so much right at the moment, but maybe sometime.

PSN+ free games have been a little lackluster too lately.

I don't like that you can't keep them if your PS+ membership lags. Plus I'm trying to get out of my digital hoarding tendencies.

If you mean playing your old PS3 games on your PS4, I don't believe it works that way. All the "emulation" on PS4 is didgital, so you'd either have to boot up PS3 or get a PS Now subscription as far as I know. Bummer too, cause there's so much on PS3 I want to play with a PS4 controller.

I played Borderlands: Handsome Collection the other day with a friend and if you want to play that one online, I am JimBeamHortonWho on PSN (also on Steam). I can't find your AlwithWarpDrive on PSN from my laptop. Hopefully, one of us can find the other.

That PS4 controller is pretty cool. It's heavier and has that touch pad. I'm liking it.

I've been meaning to make some friend requests on PS4, but I have to keep my ipod (where I have the list) away from my friend's TV or it tries to connect to it's speakers. I'll write them down tomorrow and add 'em in.
