Hyper Light Drifter

This game is so fucking pretty I want to hug it. Seriously, look at that luscious pixl art! It's a pretty hardcore action rpg too with shades of Zelda and Dark Souls. Seriously is everything Dark Souls now?

Lost Ark

This isn't Dark Souls! This is Diablo, with 70 billion enemies on screen at once. And you kill them all. This one needs a video. Is that not some of the best combat you've ever seen?

Right? I've been looking for more Action RPGs since Path of Exile stole my life, and this one looks like just the ticket.

They both look like great games, might just add them to my watch list.

These were on my list for last year. Maybe they will make it out this year.  Am I a hipster because I'm more excited about these indie and mid market games than any of the AAA games coming out?

Yeah, the Dark Souls comparisons are getting lazy, on both the part of developers and the audience. Souls didn't invent the use of stamina bars in combat, or parrying, or dark fantasy, or difficulty. Did these people play any other From Software games, any other  ARPGs, or any of the PC sword simulators that came out in the early 2000s (like Severance: Blade of Darkness, Die by the Sword)? So, unless these "dark souls inspired" games have online invasions...

I wouldn't say you're a hipster. You're just one of those people for whom the creative lethargy of triple a games has gone too far.

Doom wasn't the first fps. Neither was wolfenstein either. Why compare 90's shooters to those if catacombs 3d existed first? Because they popularised it and are an easy talking point for most people. Blade Runner didn't invent cyberpunk or dystopian future but most people have seen it so it's easier to bring that up than a more obscure work that you're audience won't get.

The Souls series popularised defensive stamina management based sword and board combat along with minimalist storytelling. It's not lazy on our if these developers are constantly saying "We want to be Dark Souls!" It is lazy on my part that I want to play all of them because of it though :p

I'm more excited about under-the-radar stuff than I am about the annual AAA refreshes myself. I don't think it's hipsterish if you're not hating stuff just to jump on some hate bandwagon. God forbid you could genuinely not be interested in the latest CoD, Battlefield, AssCreed, or whatnot.

I'm kinda with machocruz, I think Dark Souls comparisons are mostly you wanting there to be Dark Souls comparisons. Tongue Out Also, whether I can podcast today depends on what my buddy does for his bday.

Not when the developers of these games are constantly saying Dark Souls is their biggest inspiration for making theirs.

They're wrong, Zelda and Castlevania inspired them. I know more about these peoples' motives than they do.

You're wrong. Adventure and Pitfall inspired them. :)

Actually, their Kickstarter campaign explicity states "8bit and 16bit classics" and name drops Zelda and Diablo.  These influences are apparent in the video previews, as it should be in 2016. Makes me wonder why the industry keeps engaging in "sound bite" descriptions when video footage does a better job of describing  what the game is like.

I was just being facetious on this one. :) I honestly haven't heard much about this one as I don't pay much attention to the Kickstarter scene.
