BaD Six: Yo-Kai Watch Demo

I downloaded and played the Yo-Kai Watch Demo on 3DS the other day. I liked it. It's totally an RPG with exploration and item gathering and battles with Yo-Kai, who sometimes become your friend. The battle system is kind of neat. You have six Yo-Kai that you use to battle set in a wheel with the top three being the ones battling and the other three in reserve. You can rotate the wheel at any time to bring a different set of Yo-Kai tot he battle line. Then the Yo-Kai battle automatically, but you can build up their special moves by playing simple mini games during battle like tapping targets with the stylus, or tracing a pattern, or drawing circles very fast. These come up randomly it seems. Then you can Purify a Yo-Kai if they get a status effect that immobilizes them by rotating the wheel and putting them in the back line where the Purify button becomes active. My only issue with the battle system is that I can't see what's going on while I'm doing mini games to build up a special move. I could be getting my butt kicked during that time, but it's not very long, so it could only be an issue against a tough opponent, I guess.

The demo isn't very long and it ends in a boss battle that's seemingly unbeatable, but I had fun exploring the town and catching bugs, fish, random items and Yo-Kai.

The game's graphics are much better than I imagined, and they aren't all kidified like I was afraid they would be. But, I guess, the battle system isn't that deep and I don't know if it would sustain my interest for very long. So I'm not quite ready to purchase it at this moment.

I love Yokai Watch. I'm hoping we get the other games in the series. The games story is broke up into chapters that end with a boss fight at the end of each one.  The battle system isn't deep but catching the yokai is the real challenge. There is a ton to catch.

I liked catching bugs and fish too.

I don't know that it will ever compete with Pokemon here, but who knows. Maybe it'll become the crze for this generation's kids.

I'm surprised that it surpassed Pokemon in Japan. Somehow, I don't see it doing that here though. It's too uniquely Japanese. Yo-Kai spirits floating around. What cowboy understands that.

Kids. Kids don't care and will eat up Japanese shit. They corner the kids' market, they'll have a chance at eventually overcoming Pokemon. But idk, since kids now will have Pokemon-loving parents.

I have this game.  It's an all right game, it's like playing a cartoon.  Which makes sense, since there is a Yo-Kai Watch cartoon you can watch on Disney XD.  Only thing I don't like about the game is the lack of control in battles, but I've played it longer than I thought I would, so it's still pretty decent.

Both the Yo-Kai Watch game and cartoon owe everything to Fujiko Fujio (pen name), the folks who created popular manga and cartoons like Doraemon and Q-taro.  Look them up if you're curious and you'll see the similarities between them and Yo-Kai Watch.

Yea, you don't really have much control in battles. I wonder what you use items for.

It's a pretty short demo but it gives you 15 plays of it. I was good after one.

I read battle system isn't that deep. This sounds like something I would try.

Battle system is very shallow. Just boost your Yo-Kai's special attacks up as quickly as possible and watch them beat up on the bad Yo-Kai.
