Disney Infinity 2.0: Surviving the Disconnects

More co-op in Disney Infinity 2.0 today. Mark and I played Survival mode on both Assault on Asgard and Escape from the Kyln power discs. Tower defence in Assault on Asgard can be a bit of a pain after a while so we went over to Escape from the Kyln and played its Diablo style gameplay through all the story missions (I used my Spider-Man figure for this), and then tried to tackle Exploration Survival Mode (I used my Green Goblin figure for this). This mode is 50 levels long, which takes a good long time, like several hours. Problem was, we kept getting disconnected somehow and had to start all over from the beginning. The first time we got to level 36 after an hour and twenty minutes (the mode has a timer). Then we got to level 46 after two hours and got disconnected again. There wasn't enough time to try a third time, so I checked out the Stitch and Brave power disc levels.

The Stitch one is tower defense and Brave is Diablo-style. They are basically the same as the other two but with a different look and story (I'm pretty sure Kevin McDonald of Kids in the Hall fame does the main voice for the Stitch levels). I didn't stay with these that long because they were so similar to the previous two I'd played already. For achievements, you can get the ones associated with these power discs on either these two discs that came with the Toy Box Starter Pack, or the ones that came in the Marvel Super Hero starter pack. You don't need both. But I wanted to check them out anyway.

Then I went back to Disney Infinity 1.0 and started the Pirates of the Caribbean playset with my Barbarosa figure. I started in a port town and did missions for the people there and fought off attackers with my sword and pistol. Eventaully I got my ship and set sail. The sailing is pretty cool. It seems very similar to the sailing in Assassin's Creed IV, even though I never played that game but only watched a lot of gameplay. I took the helm and steered with the left analog stick. Then when I needed to shoot cannon, I pulled the camera back and looked to the side to aim and fire. It's simple and works well. Then I landed in another town and rowed a dinghy and explored the area before I had to stop for the day.

The playset contains very simple platorming, fighting, and exploration, like a lot of movie licenced games, but what's different is that everything works fine: no glitches, no awkward controls, and no unfair enemies; and it really doesn't look bad at all. Yes it looks a bit like a Lego game, but it's detailed enough to keep your interest and make you want to explore every corner.

I think tomorrow, Mark and I will give that Survival mode another shot (maybe not in co-op since the connection isn't too reliable over long periods), get the achievement, and then move on to Disney 1.0 full time. I can't wait to see the other playsets in 1.0 like Toy Story, Lone Ranger, Incredibles, Cars, and Monsters University.

it seems like 2.0 has cooler toys and stuff.  I wouldn't mind playing a Lilo and Stitch game though, for sure.

2.0 is definitely cooler and a little more gamery, ie. complex.

The Pirates World is easily my favorite in DI 1.0. It is done so well that I wished that they made a full on stand alone game for it

I played that today and I agree. I wanted more missions when it was over and more places to land.
