I started Sunday with a trip to Gamestop on my way to Mark's place and got some more Skylanders. They didn't have any from my core list like the internet said they would, so I got some Trap Team characters I didn't have and a Superchargers figure and vehicle. Used Supercharger figures are starting to fill the shelves, so I'll start picking those up when I can't find the older stuff. Here's the picture of what I got:
Left to right: Stormblade, Sky Slicer, Gusto, Blastermind, Tuff Luck
Then Mark and I played Disney Infinity 1.0 the rest of the day. I finished the Monsters U and Incredibles playsets while he did Pirates. Monsters U (I used the Randy figure) was pretty fun but the controls for riding a bike and a pig were not great. I actually gave up on most of the trick based bike challenges because I couldn't do the tricks reliably. But I did just about everything else in the playset.
Then the Incredibles (I used the Syndrome figure) was a whole lot of battling robots. The fighting system is not as good as 2.0 (I guess that's why they got Ninja Theory to help them with 2.0). Just about everything you can do feels a little slow and unresponsive. I found that with a more deliberate approach, the fighting got a little bit better. Vehicles don't control great. I think the analog stick for controling direction is set a little bit too sensitive, and so it's easy to oversteer and crash. I couldn't change this in the options; however, I found with very gentle movements, I could get better control. Then there's the helicopter which has the strangest control scheme ever: right stick is up/down, right trigger is forward, left stick is direction, and left trigger is backward. Most flying games I've played put forward/backward on the right stick and direction on the left stick (or visa versa, I foget now). I got used to the strange controls, but my hands kept wanted to go to the scheme I was accustomed to. A little bit frustrating, and that pretty much describes all action in the playset, but I enjoyed it and completed just about everything in it.
I think tomorrow I'll start the Lone Ranger playset.
I guess some Gamestops don't update their store's database or something because I keep seeing things listed online and then am told at the store that they don't have it. Happened to me again today.
D.I. 1.0's Incredibles city looks like a playmobile set in a way, but it's pretty cool. It's not too big, nor too small, and contains a surprising amount of gameplay. When I got the helicopter, I was finally in my element. Reminds me of Crackdown 2.
