Started out today on Xbox 360 and downloaded the Games with Gold: Saints Row IV and Sunset Overdrive for XBO.
Couldn't resist playing a little Minecraft before I put the 360 away. I wanted to figure out the coordinate system on the map. I tried to get to the origin point playing on Survival, Hard. I went South and got the X axis to 0, then turned East to get the Y axis to 0 but was killed by Skeletons before I got there. I respawned randomly without a map. So I went about finding matterials for a another one. FIrst I needed Redstone and iron for the compass, so I ventured into a cave system and eventally found all that. Then I dug myself out and searched for sugar cane for the paper. I built a house to survive the night and put a bed in there to sleep. The next day I found nearly all the sugar cane I needed and then left the house again to do one more search at the end of the day. I found two dogs along the way and tamed them for protection. Then darkness fell. I tamed a third dog, and when I did, I heard that fateful sound of a fuse being lit. I turned to see a Creeper with my dogs. It was too late. BOOM!!! I was dead and respawned in my house surrounded by my three dogs. I thought all spawning was to a random location, but I guess you respawn near the last bed you slept in. That's handy. Anyway, I'd had enough and quit out. It was time to boot up the Genesis.
I set up my Genesis 3 and played Devilish. This is a Breakout type game, ball-and-paddle. It has a macabre art design, and instead of fixed screens, it scrolls vertically. You clear barriers and enemies until there's a boss. You just keep bouncing that energy orb upward and collect treasures to boost your abilities like making your paddle larger. I didn't like the controls on this game much. Your paddle is a little bit slow to respond to the d-pad input. That's a bit of a game breaker for me. Having a dial style controller, like in original Breakout, is best. I got to the first boss twice and couldn't stand the controls enough to continue. I like the art design though. Great looking game.
Then set up my PS4 so it could download updates and FFXV demo while I played my other Genesis game, Combat Cars. This is a top down racer where you can bump other cars and drop obstacles behind you. I realized my controller had a dead B-button. You need that to accelorate. I borrowed Mark's and it worked. I'll return mine. The game is ok. The d-pad for steering is not fun to use. Just not accurate enough. The music is pumping good though. Check it out.
Then it was time to put away the Genesis and get down to Ratchet & Clank on PS4.
I played Ratchet & Clank the rest of the day. I got pretty far. It feels like I'm near the end after about 9 hours, but I'm not sure. There's is absolutely nothing to complain about in this game. It does everything you expect from a Ratchet & Clank game very well. You got your exploration, gun upgrades, Clank's environmental puzzle levels, humerous dialog, travel from planet to planet, robots and aliens - oh my -, hover board races and rail riding. I enjoyed every minute of it. I've been trying to find everything in the game, but some stuff is just too well hidden. We'll see when I finish the main story whether I'll feel like searching some more for the rest of it.
I figured out how to send screen shots to Twitter. You can see those on my Profile page or hit me up on Twitter at JERandolph. I'm not sure how to turn off the gameplay video recorder. I don't know how I even turned it on, but it was running throughout. If I finish R&C tomorrow, I'll play the Final Fantasy XV demo. That installed while I was playing R&C.
Over and out.

Can't go wrong with cars fighting each other.
I really need to spend more time gaming. I envy that you can relax and get into it. I've just been so stressed lately. When I do play games though, I really enjoy them. It's still my favorite way to enjoy a story/world.

I'm calling it 2D Burnout. Kinda feels like that: racing and crashing.
I often think that if it wasn't for playing games with Mark, I would play a lot less. All day gaming is just too lonely to do by myself, even with online players. I"d probably go outside instead, or play handhelds in coffee shops, anything with people around.

Did you know that Devilish was also ported to the Nintendo DS?

Hum? Might have better controls there, I'm thinking. I'll keep an eye out for that.

Combat Cars sounds like something I'd play, and yeah the d-pad for steering has always been a little funky especially after you play a modern racing game and then go back to those older games.

Yea, it's horrible. Need a good analog stick at least.
