I never got around to playing the first game, but I reviewed Costume Quest 2. It was funny and charming, but I couldn't get into it because the battle system wasn't keeping me interested.

I wanted to run through all three Xbox systems today (Monday) at Mark's place but I couldn't get Metal Slug 4 + 5 to load right on the original Xbox. I think it was due to my TV having too high a resolution because the game came up with doubled images and without color. That happened to me before with a Wii Virtual Console game. With that one I changed some settings and it was fine but not this time. My TV doesn't have manual resolution settings that I could find. So I'll play it at home on my older TV.
Then I had a backlog game for Xbox 360, Costume Quest. I played it to 100% completion and it took me most of the day. What a fun, smart, and funny RPG. It's a very simple game but the final boss on the DLC gave me some trouble. I finally beat it after swapping some costumes and combat badges. I love the battle animations for your special attacks. There are a lot of costumes to find and try out in battle, and they all have really cool animated sequences when the special attack is activated. I used the Robot (massive rocket attack) and Lady LIberty (healing ability) pretty steadily and then tried out anything new on my main character. You start out with two characters but then you get three later on. I love all the writing in this game especially the names of the collectible candy cards. All the dialog is worth listening to, and I talked to every NPC multiple times, as well as smacked them too, in order to get all the possible responses. Double Fine does such clever, funny stuff, it was totally worth it.
Then I bought Overlord: Fellowship of Evil despite the bad reviews because I love the series. Rhianna Pratchett wrote it like all the Overlord games (she did Rise of the Tomb Raider too). The game had to install on XBO of course, so I played Peggle for like an hour before it was ready. The opening cut scene of Overload: FoE is very funny, and I was thrilled to hear those voice actors again. This game is a little different from the main series in that it's more like Diablo and less like Pikmin. You can play co-op online and local too. It seems ok so far. I only played the tutorial levels before the night was over. It's too bad this will probably be the last of the Overlord games. I don't think it sold well. Too bad, but I'll try and play through it next week.
I guess I should briefly mention what Mark was playing only a few feet to my left all day. First he was playing Defense Grid 2. It looks like more of what was the first one, which is fine, since it's a great tower defense game. Then he played Sunset Overdrive. It's graphics are incredible. It's a cartoony look but very detailed. It reminds me of Ratchet & Clank on PS4. It's very much a Crackdown like open world experience. The world map, with several islands full of cityscape, looks similar. Seems like there's a lot of shooting, platforming, sharp language, and rock music in this game. It's very noisey. Luckily Costume Quest doesn't have voice acting, just dialog boxes, or I wouldn't have heard a thing. Tunes were jammin' though. Then he played Peggle 2 while I played Peggle 1. I noticed a significant upgrade in graphics looking at his screen.
And that's a wrap. Weekend's done for me. I'm going to try and play some Felony 11-79 on PS1 this week after work. I watched the opening cutscene last week and it looks like you're a muscle car drivin' bounty hunter of sorts. I'm hopin' for some proto-Burnout action.
Bye there.
