Minecraft and Halo 3

I jumped in Mark’s Minecraft survival game on XBO where he had accumulated a lot of resources. I made myself a suit of leather armor and dyed it red. Then I got myself a horse. All I needed was some iron horse armor so I could say I was riding my iron horse (Motorhead song title - I’m kinda of into motorcycles right now). I realized I could repair and enchant leather armor, so I did that. The suit held up pretty well as Mark and I took on the Ender Dragon and killed it. Then we tried to figure out how to respawn the thing. We figured out how to pick up the dragon’s egg but then we couldn’t figure out how to hatch it. Seems the rules for Minecraft XBO Edition are different than the PC version because there are lots of easy ways to do it on PC but not on XBO. Then I lost connection to Mark’s game and couldn’t get back on. I don’t know what was going on but I gave up after several attempts and built my own world instead.

In my own world, I got to the point of throwing Eyes of Ender to find the Stronghold. I realized I could use flowers to mark a trail as I chased the Eye all over the map so I could get back to the strange tower I’d built on top of a villager’s hut. There's always something new to figure out in this game.

I finally got a bit tired of Minecraft, solo gets old pretty quickly, and switched to a game on my new playlist, Halo 3. I made a list of 6 games, 1 for each month left in the year, from Metacritic’s top rated games of all time. I chose ones both Mark and I would play, some of them have co-op some don’t, and then sorted them by shortest to longest play using times listed on Howlongtobeat.com.  Here’s the list:

Halo: C.E.
Halo 3
Gears of War 1
Red Dead Redemption
Fallout 3
Minecraft

Mark and I played Halo C.E. already on The Master Chief Collection, so I started Halo 3 solo, since online wasn’t functioning at about 9pm. I’ve played this before, but wanted to see some of the graphical upgrades. It does look nice. I played on easy because I had tried some Halo 2 first and got my ass handed to me playing normal, solo. Maybe I’m just out of practice; been hefting a pickaxe too long, I guess. Anyway Halo 3 was breezy easy on easy difficulty but fun. I couldn’t figure out what to shoot on the Scarab. I remember it being pretty obvious but this time I couldn’t find the right spot to blast. Weird. I’ll get back to it tomorrow, hopefully, and finish it.

I’m started the download for Gears of War Ultimate Edition. I want to check that out next. Will Mark join in for co-op and leave his Minecraft? We’ll see.

GOW Ultimate, is that a collection of the franchise games? I tried a little bit of each but never sat down and tried to play through them. I like that you have a list of games to play for the rest of the year. That should be fun to knock out before the year ends.

GOW Ultimate is just the HD remaster of the first game and boy is it a remaster. It's got ten times the detail and polish of the original. If every HD remaster gets this treatment, I want a large number of them.

I already gave up on that list. I'm back on my backlog list which is awesome because it has me jumping around to all different genres of games. I love doing that. Variety is the spice of life, they say.
