Hello you noodley Sky Bison epidemiology majors! How are you?

A) Delightful
B) Sarcastic
C) Aroused
D) Slightly murderous.

Depending on which you chose, I will look at you with dead eyes, spout a sentence related to your answer, then cut you off and pretend like what you said doesn't matter. Sorry, I've played too much Fallout 4 and have forgotten how normal interactions work. ANYWAY!

Life

So recently I was diagnosed with Depression and strong general anxiety disorder. I've been seeing a therapist and I've been put on an anti-depressant. I haven't been on the anti-depressant long enough for it to take effect yet, but honestly just the act of doing something about it is helping.

I don't really like talking about mental health, and there is in general a stigma associated with it. Men especially don't like discussing health, and it's fucking stupid and I don't know what's wrong with us. Anyway, if you think you're having trouble, I do urge you to seek help. See a doctor, see what they say. I do feel like these disorders, however mild they may be, have been holding me back in life, and it sucks to see that other people have a hard time seeking help because they think it means admitting defeat.

Sorry for the PSA, and I know I'm probably telling you shit you've heard a billion times before. Personally, I know whenever people on the internet tell me that I'm not worthless and I'm better than I think I want to punch their fucking faces until my hand breaks because they seem to have this theory that if you just think happy thoughts you'll be happy. Like shit, I've never thought about trying to be happy you fucking retard.

Anyway, after school special/weird rant over. Let's talk games and shit!

GAMES!

Look, I've been playing entirely too much Guild Wars 2. I've gotten back into it in a big way as you can see:

Yeah. That's a bit insane. I've got 3 max level characters now too:

Ellathyr - Guardian

Faolyon - Ranger

Dystra Morne- Necromancer

I definitely think Ellathyr is my best dressed character... with the exception of maybe the panda hat which Bilby hates. And sorry for the pictures in the Main Menu, in game pics were really dark for some reason. These ones are darker than they should be too.

I've been playing a lot because I want to unlock my elite spec for necro, which unlocks a new weapon to use with it that essentially creates a new subclass. In this case, Necro's can now use a greatsword and do all sorts of ghostly awesomeness.

Doing this has been a bit of a grind, though it has got me into World vs World combat, which I was never into before. Essentially, 3 servers fight each other on a map for control. There's seige warfare and massive battles - sometimes up to 50v50 in a single battle. It's actually awesome and tactical, and I've chosen to be a support/aoe guy who dictates where the enemies can go and funnel them into our strongest people. It's absolutely a blast.

TV

I almost finished Legend of Korra Season 1. So far, I think I like it more than Avatar. I really dig the 20's Jazzpunk-esque style they've chosen, and the villain is really cool since I actually think he's in the right and it's just his methods that are a bit fucked.

It's far from perfect, the comedy relief in this series is fucking dreadful. I think Avatar nailed it, whereas this makes me cringe a lot. Though, the dramatic and action scene are handled much better this time around in my opinion. The characters aren't quite as good so far either, but it did take me at least a season to warm to Avatar's characters (with the exception of Iroh, who was phenomenal from the get go) so we'll see.

I also finished Stranger Things. It's cool, but not as cool as everyone's been saying. I liked it a ot but I feel like most people who say it's the best thing since sliced bread are bitter gen x nostalgics who want everything to be like it was in the 80's. Again, it is a fun show, but people have been comparing it to GoT or Breaking Bad and it's nowhere near that level.

Can I be aroused AND slightly murderous?

Hey, the world should be like the 80s!

now, about depression and medication... I've been on a lot of meds for about ten years now, and it took about five of those years to experiment and get the right dosages of the right meds to get me to a place where I am functioning well.  It's a new science, and every person's brain is different, so it's a real art to get it right. Don't expect immediate perfect results, but talk to your doctor about how you feel and what's happening, and eventually you'll get it right.  :)

You sure can!

Yeah I guess it will take a while. I only went on it yesterday and I feel like I'm already getting some side effects like drowsiness and dizziness. I hope it ends up helping though.

Yeah, I tried Stranger Things. Got to episode 5 and haven't been motivated to watch it since. I guess it's cute, but I'm not head over heels for it. The central mystery is not compelling at all, to me. The kids are not charismatic, and at times annoying.  It feels like what it is, a TV show, not an 80s feature film.

The reality is that our thoughts do shape our reality. Everything is energy, including thoughts. As it is above, so it is below; as it is inside, so it is outside. Negative thoughts, perception, hopelessness...the internal will hold you back externally, represented by your actions and quality of life in the material plane. But when you are down too deep, such as with a chemical disorder, you need serious assistance/support. You are doing the right thing by being pro-active and seeking that assistance. The tools to help ourselves are out there, we need but reach out for them.

Look, the last episode of Stranger Things is fun enough to be worth it, but it's nothing ground breaking. I had fun, but it's the greatest thing ever.

You're not wrong, but it's not really something most people with depression can just do. It annoys me when people tell me to think happy thoughts because it's like telling with cancer to "stop dying" or "just get better." It's like, no fucking shit dickhead, I want to know how to do those things.

But yeah I think everyone needs to be more open and pro-active about mental health. It's something so many people neglect (especially men) because they think it makes them less of a person, or they're worried about what others will think of them.

hey and thanks for the term "sky bison".  I'm gonna steal the idea for the sequel to my book.

Sorry, but I stole it from Avatar: The Last Airbender:

I kind of figured it was from somewhere.  But I'm still gonna steal it and make it twice as insane!!!!  Laughing

I started out with Stranger Things wondering what the hell the hype was all about. It really felt like some sort of kids adventure show like the kind my kids used to watch after school.

However something about it kept me watching and it wasn't Winona Ryders over the top acting. I'm not entirely sure what it was but it was just enough to push me through 8 episodes in 3 days and make me interested in watching season 2.

Definitely not Breaking Bad caliber.

Yeah I found it compelling and amusing. It's a fun show, I just don't get the massive amounts of hype surrounding it.

I'm definitely interested for season 2 though.

Korra season 1 definitely starts out stronger than Avatar and Amon is an incredible villain for the first eleven episodes, the problem is he doesn't qutie nail the season finale. I won't spoil anything, but when you find out all they reveal about him, it loses its magic. Season 2 is also super inconsistent, it's only until they got to season 3 that Korra got on equal footing with TLA.

I've heard some things about season 2 in that they really weren't planning to do more than 1 season and then they didn't have as much time as they should have for it.

I also heard Aubrey Plaza is in it, so it can't be THAT bad :p

Aubrey Plaza's character will fulfill all your wildest hopes and dreams, being so good that she magically makes all of Bolin's comic relief work and she's not even close to the best new character they introduce (once you meet Verrick your life will change forever). With that said, Korra season 2 was still a disappointment. That's how bad its flaws are even though I'd still put it as net positive just for its origin story episodes. They're not my favorite Avatar episodes, but I won't argue with someone saying they're the best in the franchise.

Fair enough. I just finished season 1. I agree about Amon's backstory, though I like the ending with his brother a lot.

People keep telling me how terrible season 2 is. Hopefully Aubrey Plaza will be enough to pull me through.

Finally, I really want a Korra game where you play as Asami. I know the first Korra game wasn't great, but imagine playing as the non-bending martial artist using crazy weapony and mechs to take down magic martial artists. That could be badass as fuck in my opinion.

I really enjoyed Stranger Things.  While I think it was a little overhyped and overpraised, I think the apeal was a little more than just for "bitter gen x nostalgics..."  As a kid of the 80s and a huge fan of the "kids on an adventure" type movies that were so popular then, nostalgia certainly played a part in my enjoyment of it, but I'm not sure where the 'bitter' part comes.  I'd be willing to bet that the majority of the fans love Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones also (which I agree are better shows).  It's just that they did so much right.  Personally for me, the poster artwork and the opening logo and music are perfect.

Again though, I do agree it was overpraised.  My expectations were super high after reading so many great things about it, so I admit I was a little let down when I didn't think it was one of the greatest shows of all time.  My biggest disapointment was Winona Ryder.  While never thinking she was a particularly great actress, I've always liked her.  However, pretty much every time she showed up in this show I just found her annoying.

You get me wrong: I'm a fan of the series. I enjoyed it quite a lot. I just think it was super overhyped and it lead me to expect more. I just think a lot of the people who are over-praising it are people who still think the 80's was the greatest thing ever.

The 80's were a time before The Simpsons, the SNES, and Quentin Tarantino movies. Therefore those people are wrong.

Yeah, I'm with you on that.  What threw me off was your original comment that I quoted about bitter gen x'rs, but I kind of missed the first part of it where you stated you were specifically talking about the people who think "it's the best thing since sliced bread."  I'm still glad for them though, because I probably wouldn't have watched it if I didn't read those articles praising it.

Moving on, I also really enjoyed Korra, but I have to agree with Casey that the beggining of the first season and the third season were the best.  The second season is still worth watching though, although it's been awhile so I can't really remember specifics.

F it, keep doing your PSA's. It could help someone here and boom you're sparking change.

Everyone keeps talking about Stranger Things. I think it's time I should check it out instead of watching Archer and other randoom shows I've already seen.

I'm on my third year of Sky Bison epidemiology and I have to admit, that deep, thick, soft fur of the Avatar variety has me hooked. Totally aroused.

I did the meds thing a while back and tried to work with it. Ultimately, I didn't like it and now I just work on exercise and diet. But I need career help even more right now. I could go back to a med that would make me submit to cubical isolation, but I think not. Today, I thought that I should practice visual art and just be happy with that, job or no job. I might just be happy with that. I dunno. . . I'm going to do something productive tomorrow, that's for sure.
