I Think I Might Trade

For my next day-one purchase, Dragon Quest VII [3DS], Sept. 16th, and the one after, XCOM 2 [XBO], Sept. 27th, I think I might trade in everything to defray the cost. I don't exactly mean everything though. For DQVII I think I'll trade in all my previous 3DS games. Why, because it seems like I'll never get to them at this rate; and anyway, they will still remain in my backlog, and if I do manage to get to them, I can pick them up again pretty easily. As for XCOM 2, I thought I'd trade in all my XBO and X360 games. I am keeping some of them though. Ones I think might be hard to find later or collections. Like, I think I'll hold on to Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Rare Replay because they have so many games on them and some of them are not far off on my backlog list. Wolfenstein: The Old Order too maybe, and Shadow Warrior; although, I watched my friend Mark get frustrated with that one. I think I'll have a lot to trade even with some hold-backs.

I look at my shelves of games every day and think, "Why do I have all this stuff?". Maybe it's because I was out of work for a week (I'm working again, but at the same job - very depressing but at least income is secure) and now more concerned about money. And maybe it's just that time when my collection gets to a certain size that I start thinking about trading to cull the herd a bit, I don't know. But it seems the right thing to do. I'm not getting rid of Culcept Saga for X360 though. That could be hard to find later, plus I love that game, even though it's incredibly unfair in the single player story later on in the game. Multiplayer is the way to go. I'd play it over Monopoly any day.

This was just a quick thought as I procratinate the job search process yet again.

I'm getting pretty excited for Dragon Quest.

Xcom2 is a great game.  I gotta get back into it.  IT's just so damn hard and stressful when you're trying to keep your team alive.

I just installed XCOM Enemy Unknown on my XBO since I got it digitally on a sale (or free, I forget) a while back and it's backwards compatible now. I'm super excited to get to it. XCOM 2, though, I'm going to play that day-one for sure. With trade-ins of course. Gotta save money right now.

I just went out and re bought PS4 today. I still have money in savings but its not has much has it once was. I can really understand how ya feel. Im gonna try to not trade though. I always end up rebuying something I trade unless I utterly hate it. I have nothing right now I utterly hate to play. Im gonna bulk back down and save what I can. September will be easy. Its Oct and Nov that have me a little concerned. So many games.....

I'm already thinking I may not trade anything. I end up rebuying stuff too, so in the long run it's not worth it.

Yeah, anyone with a large collection probably looks at it from time to time and thinks to him/herself, "imagine what I could do with the money I spent on this stuff" or considers selling it whenever money (or space) gets tight.  I've thought about just getting rid of everything and using the money to help with a down payment on a house or buy art supplies or something, but I've kept this stuff in great shape for so long, it would be a shame to sell it for a small percentage of what I paid for it (except for the stuff that has actually gone UP in value).  If I can hold onto the stuff, I'd like to give it to my son when he gets older, and he can do whatever he wants with it.  I regret selling my NES, SNES, and some Dreamcast and PS1 and PS2 games, because I had a personal attachment to some of those games and they sell for a lot more now than when I sold them.  Bottom line, if you think you might be tempted to buy the games back, don't sell them.  I guarantee XCOM will drop in price or go on sale within a few months.  Dragon Quest, maybe not, but it's like $40 anyway.  One of the games I regret selling was the PSone Dragon Quest VII lol.  I never really got into it but it's worth a good bit now, and I probably sold it for $5 or so.

I gone through this several times before. I've traded back nearly everything and then found myself buying it back a month later. Not worth it. Lately I've been trading in anything I've finished playing. That seems to work well, I just got a lot of stuff I haven't played yet and wonder when I might get to them. I may use my backlog list to guide me. Anything I'm likely to get to soon will stay, everything else can go.
