Supercharged XCOM: Dragon Beyond

So I finished up with Skylanders Superchargers. I got every achievement except the one where you have to beat the game on Nightmare difficulty. I played several levels at that setting and it was fine until I hit a certain boss that seemed mostly unfair. The difficulty being just that you take much more damage from hits than other skill levels. I went through every Skylander I had and then played it again with my highest level ones first and still couldn't beat that thing. I can only imagine how bosses in the later stages of the game will be - nigh impossible. Of course, as you level up the portal, you gain abilities that help with Nightmare mode but I was well over level 70 and didn't feel like grinding a whole lot more. I did pull out all the Skylander characters I had and tried them out. That was fun. Each figure has very unique abilites that evolve as you level them up. I almost wanted to just level up all the figures just to see their special powers. Maybe with a half dozen level 20s (max level) I could handle Nightmare mode. It just seemed more work than I wanted to put into it. Maybe I'll dive in again someday when I want a serious challenge. I'm not trading in any of this stuff. I like them too much.

So that was Skylanders for now. This week I picked up XCOM 2 and have been playing all this weekend. Boy this game is challenging. Guys are dying left and right. Well, I've had fun customizing them. I'm on a 90s kick this month, so I made 90s video game characters like Sonic, Yoshi, Commander Keen, and Bonk just to name a few. I changed their facial features and armor color to get as close as I could to the characters. I even named their weapons appropriately as well. It was kind of frustrating to see them die just a few missions in though. But you can save them in the character bank. I started a new game and they all came back as new fresh recruits. Yea, I didn't get very far before I kept failing missions. You can't fight with rookies later on in the game, you have to figure out how to keep some soldiers alive to gain rank or you're sunk. I haven't figured that out yet.

Mark was playing XCOM Enemy Unknown along side me and he was having some similar problems, but he seemed to be getting farther along in the story than I was. I love the things you can research to add perks to your weapons and skills. I just wish I could keep a soldier alive long enough to enjoy that stuff. Well, I'm still working at it. What a great strategy shooter. So deep and complex. I'm loving it.

And I've been putting in some time here and there with Dragon Quest VII. I'm at hour 15 or so. I'm so enjoying this game.

Also, I played about an hour of Beyond Good and Evil HD because XCOM 2 wouldn't boot up for some reason when I first turned on my XBO yesterday. I love the camera mechanic in the game. I want to be given a scientific assignment to photograph every living thing for money too.

Thats a rap. Bye.

Xcom is tough, it's all about strategy.  You can't just rush in with guns blazing. It's difficult, but once you start thinking more strategically, the game gets more fun.  Also, save a lot, so you can go back in case you do something dumb and lose a soldier u like.  But sometimes, soldiers just die, or have to be sacrificed. It's a cruel world in that game.  :)

I never go back. It's like I'm playing Ironman Mode all the time. I'm getting the hang of it on my second try though. You got to be really careful but still watch the clock. One mistake and you get wounded and have to heal up for a month. I'm having fun creating characters based on other 90s video games. I'm happy that you can save them to the character bank and they'll come back on new playthroughs. I spent a lot of time customizing their looks.

yeah I really get attached to some of my soldiers.  It's hard to watch them die horribly.  Laughing

I lost B.J. Blazkovitch, Link, Sonic, and Indiana Jones in one mission. Absolute disaster. Then Samus got herself wrapped up by a man-snake-thing and got captured when the mission ended. I need a new team to go save Samus! I don't think you can recover captured soldiers though.

I seriously thought about Skylanders last week when I saw Walmart discounted I believe Trap Team to $5 for the starter packs. I thought long and hard but put it down because I don't want to go hunting for figures.

I have so many figures now. I think I don't need any more. But I'll be watching for sales on the new Skylanders Imaginators. Of course, that's about to come out, so there won't be any sales for a while I think.

I'm going to go about the new Skylanders differently this time. I think I'll just get the starter pack and play through the game. Then I'll decide on one new figure I like and try that out in the game. I gotta take it slow this time.
