Last Weekend's Gaming

I played mostly Lego Marvel Avengers on XBO, but I did a little bit of Borderlands 1 and some Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World on 3DS. I'll do the least played first.

Borderlands 1: Just touched on this, since I have it digitally, as I was waiting for Halo 5 to install its ungodly 95 GB. I was going to play it but got fully taken away by Lego Marvel Avengers (more on that below). I ran through the Robot Revolution DLC again looking for claptrap drops with my level 64 Soldier. I left the game open to randos and eventually Mark and a rando Siren joined in. The drops get better with more people but then there's more people to compete for the drops. You can't win. Out of many dozens of claptraps, I got maybe two oil cans. I got a few of the other things, but I'm pretty sure I have enough of those already. Mainly I need oil cans and pizza slices. It's really frustrating to have not collected these things yet after nearly getting to the level cap of 70. After that I played a little bit more, mopping up missions I hadn't finished just to level a bit. I want to try Crawmerax one more time when I hit level 70, but I'm playing this for very short periods because I don't like farming for items in games.

Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World: I took Mark to the doctor today, so it was a perfect time to play some 3DS. It's a straight ahead 2D platformer like traditional Super Mario Bros. but with everything having to do with yarn. The world is yarn, the characters are yarn and all the puzzles in the levels have to do with yarn. It's really creative and super adorable. I surprised myself by getting hooked on it in the waiting room. Usually platformers frustrate me, but I had the game set to "mellow", the setting that puts a bunch of Poochy Pups around you that help you find secrets and aid in attacking enemies. I think I'll keep this rental game another week and see how far I get.

Lego Marvel Avengers: Logged 20 hours in this game to my surprise. I finished the main story, unlocked Ultimate Ultron and started in on the open world Manhatten. This game is pretty awesome. The Manhatten area is gigantic and full of puzzles, side missions, and vehicle races. You can also fly right up to the Helicarrier and hunt for things both inside and out. I started using the achievement list as a guide for things to do. Most of them involve unlocking certain characters (there are a lot of them) and using them in certain ways. I unlocked Lou Ferrigno and then made him turn into the Hulk for one achievement. I'm glad this game doesn't glitch at all. It ran smooth the whole time. Lego games sometime crash or have bugs. This one seems free of them. I'll be playing more of it next weekend for sure. I'm going to attempt a 100% achievement run. There are a lot of collectibles, but they're fun to get because they all require some sort of puzzle to solve.

And that was a weekend. May the BaD be with you.

Marvel Superheroes had some bugs, but I also logged some insane amount of hours into that game I was never expecting to.

On the main menu for Lego Marvel Avengers there's a link to Lego Marvel Superheroes. I was wondering what that was, but I guess it's a full game on its own.

Id's also what many seem to consider the best Lego game and I can see why.

all games should have a "mellow" setting.  :)

I've been very stressed out this year. I need my mellow.

Yoshi's Woolly World is really good.  If you liked that, you should try Yoshi's Island!

Wow, you got lucky with LEGO Marvel Avengers.  When I reviewed it, I encountered a few bugs here and there and had to start some levels over.

Yoshi's Island looks really good. I'll have to try it.

Maybe there was a patch added later. There's always an update when I put a game in the Xbox One.

95GB!  I hate that you have to install even the games you buy and the installs take up so much space. Frown

Yea, it's stupid. I can't look forward to putting in my new game and playing it right away. I know I have to wait possibly hours first. Very bad. Does PS4 do this too? I seem to remember, last time I played a game on it, that it installed very quickly or just played right away from the disc.

The PS4 is the same.  The PS3 did it too.  I guess it's because the games are on bluray and bluray drives can't read off the disks fast enough.  I don't know much about it, but that's my theory. Laughing

Why do they even bother to put anything but the ID code on the disc? It's all coming from the cloud anyway.

Oh, I forgot. Some areas still don't have reliable internet.

I just started Poochy. That is a funny game. The original Borderlands is the last of the games I haven't tackled (I don't count the Telltale game). If/when it goes back on sale for Steam I'll grab it and B2. I want to try the video game steroids on that game. Getting 100% on Avengers isn't hard, some of the hidden golden bricks are a pain, and finding the Stan Lee's is fun.

By "steroids" I guess you mean Brick's berzerk ability? I have to listen to that all the time when I play with Mark. It gets a little bit annoying after the thousandths time.

Those darn canisters are in the weirdest places. I'm going to search on my own once through but then I'm using a guide.
