Zoo Tycoon

I couldn't pull myself away from this game on XBO the other day to make a blog about it. Right now, I've in a kind of glitch where an animal won't move from the helicopter landing spot, so I can't add a new animal. What the heck!

That glitch aside, the game runs great in every other way. It's very easy to learn. It reminds me of the level building tools in Disney Infinity but even easier to use. I'm having a blast being a zoo keeper and managing my zoo. The graphics are pretty good. You can interact with the animals very close up and the animations are fine. Believable. There are a lot of animals in this game to keep in your zoo. It's fun to unlock new ones and try and get them to breed. You can also manage the human aspects of the zoo like concessions, decorations, entertainments, and facilities. You hire zoo keepers, breeding experts and maitanance workers. On top of all that you can view it all from ground view or from the air. You can use buggies to get around and they actually control well.

So I got to get back to it. That antilope still won't move and I got a sick elephant.

Sorry for missing a blog. My BaD.

The ones on PC are a little more hardcore sims. This is a more streamlined kind of game for the console plebs (as I was called recently). It's fine, I like things a little more casual. I got enough deep thinking going on as it is.

It was really just a joke. My friend and I at work were using those terms like "console pleb" and "PC master race" just for a laugh. Although, he is a PC guy and may have been trying to tease me a bit.

So ... is there a breeding animation or ... ?

No. The animals just lay down as if sleeping and then one of them gets up prego. I noticed during the hosing down sequences that the animals are not anatomically correct. I guess that's for the better, but isn't it part of the zoo experience to be shocked by the wild behavior of the animals? I remember one time, this monkey was playing with his. . . well, never mind. At least I got to pick up the poo. Tongue Out

You can get a trophy in The Last Guardian for watching Trico take a dump.

I was so ready to avoid achievement/trophies and start thinking of them as a distraction. Now you've given me a reason to think they're worth while. Thanks for that, I think. LoL

My daughter started playing Zoo Tycoon a couple days ago.  I was going through some of my old boxes full of games and the PC version of Zoo Tycoon Complete Collection was in a box unopened.  My daughter got excited and asked to play it.  I didn't know there were later releases of the game.  I just thought she saw some youtuber playing the PC version and got excited when she saw I had the game.  I had the game for years and never played.  I'm not sure how it got in my collection to be honest.  I'm sure I didn't buy it.

I just looked at the wiki for it. Apparently this Zoo Tycoon game on X360 and XBO is by a different developer than the ones on PC done earlier. . . Frontier Developments. They made Screamride and Planet Coaster, a game talked about recently on Idle Thumbs podcast that I wish was on consoles.

Hate those types of glitches. I've never tried an animal sim game. I think the closest would be the Jurassic Park mobile game but I didn't get far into it.

The game gets a little sluggish sometimes and the helicopters stop picking up animals and some animals get frozen in place. An easy fix is to save, exit and return. That usually does it.
