News:

I played more Civilization Revolution today. I couldn’t get away from it. I achieved a Technological victory by sending a spaceship to Alpha Centari. Then I tried a Domination victory but kept failing at it. I tend to veer away from military research every darn time because the education and science research choices are so attractive to me. So I tried to go against my instincts and be very aggressive but failed by overextending myself and not building my resources fast enough.

It’s actually hard to truly focus on one particular thing because all the research choices are interrelated. For instance, you need culture to keep your people happy and you need strong defenses to keep from being invaded. Both of these are tied in various ways to education and science. So you kind of have to do everything and I haven’t found the right balance yet. I started to look very carefully at the research flow chart and try to forge a path through it. I think that might be the right approach.

Somehow Mark doesn’t have a problem with the Domination victory. He ends up with a huge army of tanks and rolls over everything. He wanted that nuke so badly today. He finally got it and his controller lost power just as the rocket launched. That was too funny.

Memory:

I’m still remembering the year 2000 but this time it’s Sega Marine Fishing for Dreamcast. Mark and I played a ton of this game. It’s in the same arcade style as Sega Bass Fishing but with ocean fish. You can still use the fishing rod controller and we did. In the game, you have an aquarium where you can put your catches. It was fun to put in a big shark and watch it swim around.

Say hello to team tech from Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure

Drobot, Trigger Happy, Drill Sergeant, Boomer

As a young dragon, Drobot was more interested in gadgets than the intricacies of flying. One day he was caught in a great wind and forced down onto an island full of strange machines. At once he investigated them and took them apart, making for himself a robotic suit that could make his eyes shoot lasers, his voice a sonic boom, and shoot spinning gears. After becoming very powerful in his homeland, he sought out Master Eon to become a Skylander.

Trigger Happy just mysteriously appeared in a town on the outskirts of Skylands where bandits were having their way. He shot golden coins at them with his two guns and chased them away, making the town rich in the bargain. Master Eon heard of it and made him a Skylander.

Drill Sergeant is a train-like, drilling machine buried for thousands of years before Terrafin dug him up while burrowing. Terrafin took him to Master Eon who brought him back to life. He is an Arkeyan, a member of a robotic race that conquered Skylands long ago before they were conquered by the Giants.

Boomer is a green troll who loved explosives and blowing up sheep. He joined the troll army as their explosives expert but didn’t like war and conquest. He just wanted to blow up sheep. So one day he was asked to blow up a dam to flood a town. He blew up some sheep instead and they flew into the water and soaked it all up and saved the town. Master Eon heard about this and made him the first and only troll Skylander.

Ive always wanted to try civilization, but never pulled the trigger.  Maybe next steam sale I will get the new one. I understand it's better to wait anyway for them to balance out stuff.

Boom looks like Yoda.

I've never played the full Civ experience on PC. I'd love to though. I really like the game's sumarization of history. Makes you think.

Yoda is his younger days. He was wild and crazy before he turned to the quiet contemplation of The Force.

I never tried Sega Marine Fishing but it sounds similar to the Mii game on the 3DS where you go out fishing, use bait and catch whatever special fish you need for your collection and place it in an aquarium.

Yea, the basic outline is similar but you haven't lived until you reel in a Hammerhead Shark to some ripping tunes with the Dreamcast's fishing controller. Yea!
