E3 2017 Reactions: Microsoft

I just watched Microsoft's E3 Press Conference. There are a lot of interesting games coming out soon. One I really liked was Metro Exodus, such cool graphics and such amazing detail in the world and in the actions of your character. His gun jams, he pulls the crossbow bolt he just shot out of the monster his killed and reloads it in his crossbow. The creature animations are frighteningly realistic. I’m excited to check that one out.

The announcement of original Xbox games coming to the backwards compatibility program got my attention and probably the biggest crowd reaction of the show. I immediately went through all the games I have and what I’d like put on that list: KOTOR for one, Black, Destroy All Humans 2, Baldur’s Gate Dark Alliance, Burnout 1-3, and Crimson Skies just to name a few off the top of my head.

The announcement of Minecraft being connected to every system out there was kind of interesting. I guess it’ll be the first game to cross over to every system.

The Xbox One X is pretty cool and I’d upgrade to it if I had the money. I know Gamestop will have some trade-in program to incentivize people to do that. So maybe one day I’ll do that. I sure like the idea of faster load times. I hope that extends to download times. I hate those long installs.

I’m going to watch the other press conferences one at a time every day this week. I can’t wait to see the Sony and Nintendo ones and some of the developer presentations.

Metro and Forza 7 looked damn pretty, but until prices match with my wants, 4K is not here for me.

The BC had me excited as well, since I never owned an Xbox and want to play their libraries.

Unfortunately, Sony is not part of crossplay for some stupid reason.

I loved the Sony press conference and some interesting stuff came from Nintendo. People are saying Ubisoft "won" E3 this year, but ... Eh.

I'm not big on 4K yet either. I question the level of improvement over HD screens but I really haven't done any comparison shopping yet. When I have money again, I'll consider it.

I thought I saw Sony listed for Minecraft, that they were bringing every version of the game together.

I'm going to watch Sony's conference tomorrow and write a blog post. I can't wait.

A friend had a 4k tv curved set at home and it looked AMAZING, but we had to change some things to get the frame rate right when watching Guardians of the Galaxy on cable. It did look amazing though. But I'm just not in the market for those kinds of expenses for the foreseeable future, even if I could buy one and still live plenty comfortably. There are just more important things I could use the money for.

I just saw an article in Kotaku where they interviewed a Sony rep who was trying to say they didn't opt in cause they wanted brand consistency or something similar. http://kotaku.com/sony-has-a-weak-excuse-for-not-allowing-cross-platform-1796077238

Do you already know what the highlights and trailers will be? Or have you avoided all that?

Figures someone wouldn't join in. I knew it was too good to be true.

I know some things already since I listened to the Gameinformer podcast reviewing E3. It's ok. I'll watch it all even though some of the reveals have been spoiled for me. I really wanted to get my friend Mark or someone excited enough to want to watch it all live as it came out, but I could find anyone. So I just waited until I had time. I have this faint hope that I can get into an IT career surrounded by other nerds who'll want to do that. Maybe there's a bar that, like a sports bar, would play the show. I'd go to that.

I like that XBox is offering backwards compatability for their original games. I still have my original XBox hooked up and sometimes I'll jump into a game or two of Project Gotham Racing. I am also interested in Forza but I might buy it on PC.

I wish I had time to play my original Xbox. It's been in the closet for a long time now. I heard mention of Arx Fatalis again today, by the makers of Dishonored, and I want to play that.
