Blake's June Update

If you're asking where I've been for the past few weeks, I'm not sure I know either. It's been a bit of a blur, and it honestly just feels like I've woken up from a really long sleep. I started smoking, because I'm a fucking idiot, and I started smoking weed just to further how much of a fucking idiot I am. I'm hoping this idiotic self destruction spiral ends soon, but cigarettes are so fucking good at combating my anxiety it could be a while.

So what have I been up to in games? Again, I have no fucking idea. Apparently I played a butt ton of Kirby's Crusty Paintjob or whatever the game on the wii-u where Kirby loses his shit over an apple and vows to destroy humanity is. It has a super awesome aesthetic though, and it's fucking difficult for a kirby game. Maybe because I suck at drawing anything.

The only problem I have with Kirby's Multicoloured Love-Purse is that it's such a pretty game, but it makes me look at the shitty gamepad all the time. I want to see the gorgeousness on my tv, not a washed out gameboy ds interpretation.

I also found Dragon Quest IX for like $18 and have been enjoying the shit out of that. It's a Dragon Quest game that I can play in bed, and that's all I need from it honestly.

We got a new roommate named Cass, and her boyfriend has an XBone, so I tried out Forza Horizon 3, which was fun. Weird, because I've driven on quite a few of the roads as Byron Bay is about 2/3 hours from where I live, and I've been to Surfer's Paradise a few times. The actual layout and geographys is a bit fucky, but oh well. I just like seeing Aussie roads in things.

I also fell in love with Sunset Overdrive. I love me a good skating game, and while this is not a skating game it does feel like one. I love amassing combos and trying to kill as many people as possible before touching the ground. It feels a bit repetitive and like I might get bored soon, but for now I'm having a blast.

I'll leave you with a song that feels mildly approriate:

Rainbow Curse is probably my least favorite Kirby. I was pretty pumped for it thinking we'd get a real sequel to Canvas Curse (my second favorite in the series), but it wasn't half the game that was. Oh well. DQIX is a cool game. If you can get someone to do MP, that's surprisingly fun too. But hard to do anywhere other than Japan.

Ihaven't played Canvas Curse, which is probably why I'm enjoying the Wii-U. I'm interested though: in what ways is it inferior?

Mostly in terms of level design, think of RC as NSMB while CC is 3 or World. CC pushed the concept to its full potential, always introducing new ideas for levels without resorting to gimmicks, something RC lacked

But they're sooooo good. Well, they're actually terrible, but they help my anxiety and actually let me sleep.

Go budha and meditate. Wait, I should do that.

KIrby and the Rainbow Curse is one of the more difficult Kirby games.  It's also one of my least favorite, along with Canvas Curse.  They're not bad games at all, I just didn't like them as much as other Kirby titles.  I'm glad that you are giving Kirby games a try, though.  Kirby is my favorite Nintendo franchise.

I have had two cigarettes in my life, but I haven't had any more because I know I'd get addicted for the reason you describe.

Must be cool seeing your area represented in a game. I still want a virtual Dallas.

I met the Insomniac PR team in L.A. when they were working on Sunset Overdrive. I never did pick that or an Xbone up, but I have Ratchet and Clank And plan to get spider man.

I like that clay aesthetic for Rainbow Purse, ah, I mean Curse.

I so want to play the Forza Horizon series. What's fucky about the layout and geography?

And I never got to Sunset Overdrive even though I got it for free on Games with Gold.

Your description of Kirby vowing to destroy the world over an apple might have sold me on the game. I have no idea how much cigs are in Australia, but they have to be as expensive as they are here. That alone should be motivation to quit.
