I had some time to kill before a family get together so I dropped by Round 1 and played a few arcade games.

Plants Vs. Zombies. This is a light gun shooter. You have a pea pod shooter and aim at zombies as they approach you on the screen. You shoot targets in the air to give you power boosts or special types of shot. It was fun.

                                 fish

Next was some fishing game that reminded me strongly of Sega Bass Fishing. I forget the name of it and my picture is terrible. It had a large fishing reel controller. You do the same thing as in Sega Bass Fishing with the Dreamcast fishing rod controller. You pull back on it to hook the fish and then reel them in, but not too fast or you'll break the line. This game didn't last very long. I caught two fish before it asked for more money. I moved on the try other things.

Star Wars Battle Pod. This thing was twice as much as the other machines but it was worth it. You sit inside a "pod" with two control sticks. The screen is curved and completely covers your field of view. I was disoriented at first and a little bit nauseous, but I got used to it pretty quickly. I played the Battle of Yavin mission. You are over the death star fighting TIE fighters until you have to make the trench run. I really liked it. That immersive screen is dynamite. It feels really great to fly around in an X-Wing.

Most of the games there were 4 tokens, which is about $1. Star Wars Battle Pod was 8 tokens or $2. It seems a lot to me who still remembers quarter machines. I just play less rounds.

There was one bullet hell shooter game I wanted to play, but I was out of tokens. Next time for sure. Also there was a game called Tank! Tank! Tank! (also a Wii-U game) I wanted to play but my legs were too long to fit in the machine.

Lots of these machines were right out of Japan with Kanji characters all over them. I guess they were designed for smaller people as well.

That was Thanksgiving. I didn't make it to Target in time that night. Stayed at my sister's until the football games were over around 11:30. It's just as well, I shouldn't spend anything right now.

Hope you had a good Thanksgiving if you celebrated it.

I loved Round 1 Arcade!  Do you remember my article about it?

Tank! Tank! Tank! is a lot of fun.  It's like a sillier version of Tokyo Wars, another Namco tank game.

Did you see Space Invaders Frenzy?  That was my favorite game there.  I also liked Groove Coaster, a Japanese music game from Taito.

Yes, I remember. But give me the link. I want to read it again.

I'm getting Tank! Tank! Tank! for Wii-U sometime for sure.

I saw Space Invaders Frenzy there a while ago, but this time I didn't see it. There was a corner of the arcade with all dance and rhythm games. Groove Coaster was probably there.

Oh man! I forgot to look for Luigi's Mansion Arcade. I saw that once there but didn't this time. I think I like this arcade way better than Dave & Busters because it has so many Japanese games in it. I didn't go for most of what I saw at Dave & Busters.

Yeah the draw of Round 1 is all the Japanese games that were new to me.

Man, I would love to play that Star Wars game, but I don't know of any arcades near me. That looks so cool.

i guess it's basically VR but with a wraparound screen instead of goggles.
