Solo and Done with Rise of the Tomb Raider

I saw Solo on Friday. There was a whole group of cosplayers outside the theater: storm troopers, sandpeople, Chewy, Sabine, and Boba Fett. That sort of set the mood right. Then I finished the campaign in Rise of the Tomb Raider and tried to start some State of Decay 2 but it wasn't finished downloading so I played some Lego Batman. Notes follow.

Solo: I thought it was a pretty good Star Wars movie. I felt Lando was left out a little too much and Han was a little too good natured - just a good kid in a bad situation. But, outstanding visuals and callbacks to other Star Wars films saved it from being totally forgetable. As with Rogue One, a droid stole the show?

Rise of the Tomb Raider:  I finished the main campaign finally. What a fantastic game! I'm astounded by the wealth of visual real estate and variety of things you do. It really lends itself well to replays in Exploration mode. Only, Exploration mode seems more like replaying a lot of the battles, and, although well done, I didn't enjoy as much because you are basically underpowered and have to stealth your way around. Although, I tried hard to use my bow with poison, blast and fire effects as much as possible. I nearly forgot about my guns in the final set of fights. It was a lot of stealth kills, executions and bow shots for me.I'm not replaying levels right now, but maybe someday. I'd like to play the previous game in the series for sure.

State of Decay 2: Podcast Unlocked told me you could play this solo or in co-op and that it was more tactical in nature, so I downloaded it from Game Pass. I read through all the slide shows for the story and gameplay while it tried to finish up the download but it didn't make it and I switched to something else from Game Pass.

Lego Batman:  I just played a half hour or so but it's totally cool. I returned to the Batcave to make sure all the Bat-vehicles were there, and they were. I'll go back to trying State of Decay 2 though next time.

That's a few days worth.

I actually enjoyed Solo probably more than any other recent Star War. I didn't think L3 stole the show like Alan Tudyc's (sp?) character in Rogue One, but that's because I actually LIKED and gave a shit about human characters in Solo.

I understand your complaints, but it was such a fun ride.

My favorite thing to do in Rise were all the tomb puzzles, which, fair warning, are fewer and fartherv between in the original. Story, action, and to some extent visuals are about on par though.

Yea, I probably overstated the L3 thing, but she made me laugh.

At the time, I was suffering a bit from a back ache while watching the movie which probably partially ruined my experience. I want to see it again on IMAX this time. I think visually, it was a stunning movie that related everything that made the universe of Star Wars interesting.

I didn't have too much trouble with the puzzles. Except maybe that acrobatic one where you have to jump across these rotating bars of steel.

I can not bring myself to watch any Disney War movies. That is a personal choice, I'm glad you enjoyed it though. I still have Tomb Raider in the wrapping, sitting on the back log pile.

Now you mention it, I do see the hand of Disney in this film now. That Solo was made a scoundrel with a heart of gold is totally a Disney thing. Boo! He's just a scoundrel. Tell that story.

Bump it up. It's so good the more I think about it.

Yeah, I think Disney should stick to Princess and Fairy movies. I know there are people that hate episodes I-III but those stories needed to be told. Yes they were love stories and in a way episodes V and VI were too.

As for the Sega CD, I have mine from when I was a teen when it came out. My mom and dad got it for me for Chritmas. That thing was $300 at that time. I have the Dreamcast and the Saturn so I will check today and see if it is backwards compatible. Man it is so great gabbing about games again.

I remember when they took over Pixar and saw Cars and thought, "man, Disney's ruined Pixar". There's been a few good ones though.

I can't stop. It's just endlessly interesting to me. People, especially younger people. are usually surprised when I engage in game talk. Should I stop? How?

I've actually resisted talking games with my neice and nephew. They seem unreceptive to it, or think it strange I know about such things. Oh well. Their loss. I've got lots of techniques to share.

I'm going to see Solo next week. Looking forward to it.

I'm gonna pick up Tomb Raider eventually. It looks pretty classy.

I wish I'd seen Solo on IMAX. Space flight stuff is so great on that screen.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is astoundingly good.

I hope I can see the Solo movie before I go to E3.  Movies don't stick around in theaters as long as they used to.

E3 is going to be really exciting this year. I can't wait. And I'm jealous as heck.

The reason why E3 is going to be exciting this year is because I'm going to be there! :)  Ha ha!

Put a GoPro on your head and stream it on Twitch. I want to vicariously live through your experience of it. Ha!

If only I knew what a GoPro was... :)

It's a small digital video camera people use for all sorts of purposes. More like a fancy web cam, now I think of it.

Rise is really good. Usually once I finish a game on Steam I unintall it but I still have the two Tomb Raider games installed because I like to go back and play a little bit every so often.
