Some Others I'm Playing Recently

I forgot to add one game to the last blog and today Mark and I got into some traditional, casual social gaming.

Bomber Crew (2017 Steam, XBO, others?)

I got this from Game Pass on XBO and quickly got hooked on it. It took a little while to get comfortable with the controls but I finally did and then couldn't stop playing it. It's a flight sim but with some arcade action and a lot of management of your crew and plane. There's a seven person team in the bomber. You recruit them, equip them, give them skills, and name and customize their looks. Then you tweak your bomber in every slight detail. Then you fly missions and get attacked by air and ground forces on the way to various bombing sites.

You zoom in and out of your bomber while in flight to manager your crew and navigate. When a gunner gets knocked out, you send someone to give first aid and get them back in the turret. When the electrical systems fail, you send your engineer to fix them. An engine catches on fire, you can upgrade your plane to have built in extinguishers, or you can send someone to grab one off the wall and do it by hand.

One funny moment was when I had two engineers out on the wing fixing engines when I decided to have the pilot do a fancy maneuver with the plane. This sent the engineers both flying off the plane and into the air. I had to laugh at my stupidity. I won't make that mistake again.

Trivial Pursuit Live: I got really bored with single player games (I was playing Rage) when I noticed Habro Family Game Pack was on sale. Mark and I both got it and started playing Trivial Pursuit Live. I let randos enter the game and we had four players going for a long time. This game has many small game modes to make it interesting. I like it a lot. I'm thinking I am only going to play multiplayer games against real humans for a while. I find it desperately lonely to play in a dead (only AI) world and fight AI enemies. I don't care how beautiful the world is, no humans, no life.

I'll see how long this mood lasts but I'm going to seek multiplayer experiences from now on.

Funny how Rage never had a multiplayer.

I used to feel lonely playing single player games and played a lot of multiplayer too. The problem is with mics on some players can be really toxic. But other players can be really cool. But for a while I played a lot of Team Fortress, Left 4 Dead, and Call of Duty multiplayer like there was no tomorrow. Eventually I burned out on FPS and haven't really played any since.

I still get excited by a good FPS but right now I've been kind of bummed that my friend Mark isn't as much into co-op gaming anymore. It's probably that he's lost some skill with his bad shoulder and also that I've gotten better and a little more competitive lately. He doesn't like losing. Ha!

But, I got him into Trivial Pursuit, and with other real human players. He's usually dead set against randos because of griefing, but I've been more daring lately.

I remember when Trivial Pursuit came out in the 80's and everyone had Trival Pursuit parties.  We'd also read the questions cards at school and on road trips.  The game itself, at least back then, was not very well designed, though.  I think they've improved it since then.

This one is very fun. There are something like 12 different modes that cycle randomly and they are all interesting twists on multiple choice. Also, if you get behind in a few rounds, one good round can get you right back in there. I was afraid real players would exit the game if they got behind but no one did because you can always pull a come-from-behind win. I like that.

Hey Bomber Crew. I saw that game after I bought FTL. Similar games but the graphics in this game are nicer.

Trivial Pursuit is a game I'd like to see on the Switch. I had one for PS2 and it was fun just to sit at the end of the night and play a few rounds, and it would be perfect to play on the Switch.

I really love Bomber Crew right now. The other day, I came in for a landing after a mission and noticed at the last minute that one tire hadn't lowered. The plane broke up on the runway. Ha! I didn't know one side of the landing gear could fair like that. Time to upgrade the hydrolics.

Trivial Pursuit Live is a lot of fun in this incarnation. I play it online public to see what randos show up. Sometimes I get a four player match.
