Putzing Around on XBO

I felt like some XBO today. Sorry Last of Us.

Mark was playing Prison Architect so I dove in too. This is a very cool managment sim/builder game. You can control every aspect of the prison from a top down view. You can start from scratch but Mark and I played the story missions first. The stories put into the game are actually really good. First it's about a guy sentenced to death for double homicide, then you are embroiled in the activities of an jailed mob boss and his two sons. In addition to the main stories, every inmate has a back story you can look into.

I played for a while but got stuck on a map where I couldn't get my workers to finish an infirmary. I think I tried to put in special floor tiles and they ran out of resources and so wouldn't finish it. I tried to demolish it and start again but for some reason the game in that mission wouldn't let me. I was testy today and quit. I kept thinking about the game the rest of the day though. I may want to take it on again. Mark went on very deep in the story missions as I looked in on him from time to time.

I went on to try Livelock, a top down view shooter. I didn't like it much. I found it tricky to target robots with my sniper rifle. I got killed a few times and my testiness wouldn't stand for it.

Then I tried Manual Samuel from Game Pass. I'd heard about this game from a podcast a while ago. Your character gets killed and has a chance to regain his life but only if he can live a day in his old life controlling every basic bodily function consciously. Sounds easy right? It isn't. You have to pull the triggers left and right for each leg to walk. You have to blink regularly or the screen starts whiting out and you have to breathe. Yes breathe. One button to breathe in, the other out, or you turn blue and pass out.

From there the game challenges you with more complex tasks on top of those basic ones like driving a car with a stick shift, eating, pissing, and doing maintenance on robots at your dad's factory. The story is great and the things you had to do made me laugh all the time. But, I got to a part where you put on a robot suit and I couldn't get past this shielded robot. I had to approach, pull up a shield, then switch to throwing a guy from my shoulders at the robot. I couldn't get it to work and in my testy mood, I moved on. Great game though.

Finally I hit a game that didn't beat me up, Onrush. This is an off-road racing game in the style of Burnout. You crash into opponents and boost to crazy speeds. It was really fun and even when I wrecked they got me right back in there. I played solo races and then multiplayer. I got my butt kicked in multi but it was fun too.

I customized my car, driver, and crashtag. The game gives you loot boxes which give you car skins and other neat things. It was really fun.

I'm a bit down right now though. I'm feeling like I'm playing alone. I haven't played anything co-op for a long time now. I wonder if it's worth playing at all right now. I'm thinking of dropping my game days to only one on Thursday. I got things I should be doing right now anyway.

But I'll be taking out the Xbox 360 next week and trying a few old games like Last Remnant. That should be interesting. I hope my 360 still works.

That Manual Samuel game reminds me of Octodad.  That was a game where you were an octopus trying to pose as a family man.  You had to move your left and right tentacle legs and arms separately to do menial tasks and chores.  It was hilarious.  I think it would've even made a good cartoon!

I will definitely play Octodad if it appears on Game Pass.

Onrush sounds like something I would play a lot of, and it's available for the PS4! Heck yeah.
